Had sudden onset of a really painful lump and bruising in my forearm. Increased pain with movement. Went to ER to rule out DVT. Ultrasound showed good blood flow and no issues with clots! (Yay!!) But also showed large mass within the muscle. The tech said he’s never seen anything like that before. The dr said the same thing.😬 His best guess was a tear in the muscle so he gave me a splint. Not using that hand does make it feel better, but what the heck?! A week later my entire arm, wrist to shoulder is in agony and my entire forearm is bruised! Started HU a few weeks ago. Had an easy, uneventful blood draw on that arm 4 days earlier, but nothing else. Is this a thing?!?

Hematoma after blood draw/muscle tear?!
It sounds to me like something else is going on there. I would talk to your gp again as soon as possible to rule out other causes. The large mass would concern me.
This definitely needs follow-up ASAP. I would be more suspicious of a hemorrhage event related to the thrombocytosis. That is just as much of a risk as a thrombotic event. Your doc really ought to check your prothrombin times and likely run a von Willebrand panel.
It could be something totally unrelated, but any event related to how our blood behaves always needs investigation. I would be sure your hematologist knows. Hopefully that doc is a MPN Specialist and familiar with these vents.
I think it needs investigating . Go back to GP.good luck
I have seen a nurse with her arm purple and swollen from wrist to mid upper arm after having a simple blood sample taken.
Patients used to be told to bend the elbow after having a sample taken, now we are advised to keep the arm relaxed and apply gentle pressure to the swab after the needle has been removed.
Don’t you just hate it when someone presses on the vein first and drags the needle or venflon out. OUCH!
