Just recently discovered this article concerning patients, (such as myself), who might also be taking Methotrexate (MTX), as part of their MPN treatment. Apparently, being on MTX can disrupt the effectiveness of the Pfizer Vaccine, please see below for the full article & reference.
No, not completely conclusively as yet... But there seems to be that correlation is a distinct possibility etc...
They have just upped my MTX dose too, on top of my Rux 25mg b/d etc...
Interestingly, my Specialist offered me Pfizer vaccine today, saying that because of my condition, I might be subjecting myself to greater risk w/ AZ etc...
Having had a few TIAs, and also Acquired VWS means I am already suffering from a clotting problem once my Platelets are north of that magic 1Million marker...
As of today, I will also commence Dual Anti-Platelet Therapy (DAPT), which is Low dose aspirin combined w/ clopidogrel.
It is of particular interest to me, as my hubby is on this drug, and I’m always wary of his immune response to such things. I thought the advise of temporarily stopping the drug to boost immunity was worthy - under medical advise of course. I had also thought why this wasn’t considered, as it is advised when an infection is present or antibiotic treatment is needed obviously to boost immunity!!
Interestingly, we have both had the vaccine antibody test with ‘Testing for All.’ Anything above 0.8 U/ml is considered a positive for antibodies against the Covid Spike protein.
My result was 2239 U/ml four weeks after the second AZ vaccine. My husband’s was 579 U/ml five weeks after second AZ vaccine. This is out of a possible 2500. So, it seems for him, he’s had a response, but obviously not as robust as mine.
I hope Judy sees this, as she’s also on methotrexate and her results showed a negative response to the vaccine.
