This popped into my inbox tonight from Blood Cancer UK. I thought some of you might be interested in the explanations and limitations discussed. I found the video clip particularly helpful. So far it only relates to Pfizer
In their earlier letter they mentioned that this study only focused on Pfizer as that was the first vaccine available. I think if funding allows they would like to extend the scope to cover other vaccines and to measure the difference that the second jab makes. But as always, that will depend on if and when they get funding to do the research.John
Thanks John, I had not seen this helpful response. In relation to the original research piece, it is counter productive to be publicising results from small sample studies that are not causal and do not control for age, type of disease, treatment type and so on. This response clarifies that only 2 MPN patients were involved in the study mentioned so we cannot infer anything from it. Similar situation to the current debacle about the AZ vaccine and blood clots - there is no causal evidence at all that one causes the other and it has just led to increased fear of vaccines and countries cancelling their AZ vaccination programmes. Anyway, it is good to know that Blood Cancer UK are advocating for an earlier second dose for those with blood cancers. All the best, Susana
