When will people with blood cancer get a covid vaccine?

I think anyone who was asked to shield will be classed as clinically vulnerable and be close to the top of the list

Hmm. The powers that be in the UK appear to have moved the goalposts somewhat in that there is now a lag of up to 12 weeks between being given dose 1 and dose 2. As I see it, this means very few people will have been double dosed by Easter.

My GP surgery was one of the first to get the Pfizer vaccine but limited supply has meant that they haven't been able to really roll out very quickly - the changed dosing regime and the Oxford vaccine roll out should mean that more people will get their first dose sooner. (I have not been approached yet - over 70 and clinically vulnerable so in tranche 4).

The bottom line is that we've got another three months of restrictions however you look at it.

Hello,I have just had my first vaccination yesterday . I return in 3 weeks for second. I have ET JAK2+ and GP contacted me to offer this at local hospital. My husband has also had one, presumably on my account. I would add that I’m 85 on Sunday! Hoping all of you are offered it soon. Best thoughts for a better 2021. Regards Fran xx

Doing in age groups. Doesn’t make any difference if have underlying issues. Done in age as that’s the common factor putting you at risk

Thank you for this. I'm 40, have post-ET and MF and have been shielding since I started Peg Interferon at the beginning of June 2020. I just had my checkup with haematology this morning; they couldn't tell me when I'll be receiving a vaccine and just told me to continue shielding. My spouse and I both assumed that my age puts me further down the list, so it's really good to get some clarity on this.

Boris Johnson suggested last night that groups 1 to 4 might get their first dose by mid-February but given his track record and the fact that this pronouncement was surrounded by so many caveats (‘with a following wind’, ‘if all goes in our favour’, ‘if the rollout goes as planned’ etc) I’m not holding my breath..! Easter might be a more realistic date to hope for..!

I think it’s supply and logistics - l believe in UK they need to vaccinate aprox 8 million people to cover risk groups and health workers so 16 million vaccinations. How many can they realistically do in a month ?? In Germany they have only managed 250000 so far in France under a 1000 UK is doing well.

Well, since in the UK we now have up to 12 weeks between dose 1 and 2, that should speed up getting dose 1.

It's hard to tell at what rate the vaccine will be administered, given that the descision to drop the baton over Christmas and New Year so that people could gaily go out and spread the virus rather than get vaccinated has rather skewed the figures so far.

Uptake rate will also be a factor.

I think BoJo's mid February target for groups 1 to 4 is "optimistic"
