Hi, I wrote this poem already in another thread but wanted to share it with you all in the hope it might bring some peace, cheer and love back to this forum. I’m no poet but I hope you like it.

2020 was a year so hard to bear,

Family, so important for us to care.

Pain, solitude, depression and grief

Longing to see loved ones, however brief.

Now the lights are switched on, like rays of hope,

Progress, though slow makes it easier to cope

Clouds are brighter, days not so dark,

Vaccines bring hope and will now make their mark.

COVID has taught me what’s important and not,

And to appreciate what I’ve already got,

My kids and grandkids, family and friends,

My freedom to do things without an end.

Nature is beautiful and there to be seen

Enjoyed, amazed, enthralled to the extreme,

COVID has helped me see these wonderful things

And to appreciate this world and all it brings.

White snowdrops blanket the greener grass,

Daffies and tulips will arrive on mass,

Yellows and whites, stripes and plain,

Glistening in springs gentle rain.

As birds and animals plan parenthood

Their antics increase their need for food.

Little mouths to feed and care for

Noisy reminders what parents are there for.

Baby bunnies so cute, so small,

Hedgehogs curl up into a ball.

As hawks fly high and scan the ground

Hoping soon their lunch will be found.

Nature’s beauty is there for us,

From car or train or even a bus.

To walk, to breathe in the fresh air,

To feel the wind blowing through my hair.

Watching babies grow as they thrive

And learn to fly, swim, duck or dive,

Parents nurture, teach and feed,

Reminds me of our basic needs.

In the fields lambs will soon appear,

Anxious mums keep them near,

Calves, chickens, Cubs and fawns

Will appear like magic as each day dawns.

I hope my words do bring some hope

To those who grieve, cry or mope.

Life will improve as spring approaches,

Gloom no longer our mind encroaches. 😻😻

Well done Amy. Glad you’ve reposted it here.

It’s a lovely poem. For me, it conveys appreciation, hope and above all, light triumphing darkness. My favourite line is, ‘white snowdrops blanket the greener grass,’ there’s some imagery....

This is lovely! thank you so much for sharing. I have felt very gloomy this weekend, always do this time of year anyway but with everything else its been a bit overwhelming. Working and homeschooling on top with no end in sight it seems isn't helping my stress 😩

But everything you have written is true and a great reminder better times are coming - i do believe that and this tough time will be worth it in the end! Take care and thank you again x

Oh Aime you have reduced me to tears what a beautiful poem ! , I actually ventured out yesterday for a walk in the snow with my two girls. I could here small children laughing and playing in the snow and saw the first signs of spring didn't go far but far enough to blow the cobwebs away. Watching my to girls playing like they were 5 year olds again ( 24 & 17 years old) really reminded me how precious life and time is.

So thank you for your amazing poem .

Much love and hugs

Well done and Thank You Aime I loved waking up to your beautiful poem. Spring springing is my favourite time of year ,as I enjoy feeding our local bird population including about 60 noisy starlings and a seagull who sits on my shed roof when hungry who we call Cliff, but I like to think I've contributed to their fledglings flying the nest. And only yesterday I noticed a small clump of snowdrops down my garden. And it's always good to see an early carpet of daffs to tell you Spring is here or close by.

It's often the things we take for granted that can give us the most pleasure including the little ones in our family.

Lovely words for someone who says they're no poet 😉 - Chris xx

I like the name Cliff, so appropriate for a gull! 😻😺The gulls are a pest with us as they scare off Mr Crow and family and all the other birds who feed in our garden. I notice the birds getting craftier now and outwitting the gulls at times. The crow family are very clever at adapting where they can feed, like under tables and benches so they get some shelter from the gulls.

The grandkids enjoy taking food to the Wetlands and have now got a long list of different birds, 4 rabbits and at least 2 pheasants expecting food. The eldest grandson has sussed that if he is quiet he will see more but the little one (4 years old), is like a tornado and doesn’t know what quiet means!🤣🤣. His brother was giving him a row! Yes being here in Blackpool there are mixed views about the Gulls as they can be very aggressive on the promenade. Im inland a bit but they sit atop the chimneys and if i have any offal scraps they are gone in seconds rather than going rancid in the bin.

Your description of the wee chap giving his brother a telling off for making too much noise made me chuckle. Sounds like a great place to walk , I used to see alot of varied wildlife when sitting quiet fishing but I've not been able to go since well before my transplant . Maybe one day.

Enjoy your next walk out xx

Thanks, Aime, for posting such a lovely poem. Since we don’t like taking my mom to an indoor place, we’ve been meeting at a beautiful park near her apartment. There are raccoons, squirrels, birds, and many trails that my boyfriend and I can walk. Before Covid, I don’t think I’d been there in 10 years.Your poem does remind us how precious life is and to appreciate the beauty around us.

Thanks again.

Thank you for your kind comments and so glad the poem has lifted spirits. I’ve been very lucky with everyone healthy in my family and able to go out into nature easily. Understandably, I think everyone has been affected emotionally by COVID and even more so, when loved ones have been lost. Take care my friends, keep looking forward to better days. Each time I go out and walk in the Wetlands I will be thinking about you all. Aime x😻
