Yes to both ET and COVID in September. I was very blessed in that I had a mild case. Spent only one night in hospital on oxygen. I am still having breathing difficulties at times especially when talking. That actually was my only “symptom”. It was hard to tell what was Covid, what was ET, what was Hydrea (500 mg every other day) and I’ve always had headaches and fatigue but both were worse and wouldn’t go away. Dr. requested testing I think more to rule it out and we both were shocked when it came back positive. About 4 days later is when I went to the hospital with breathing. I never really felt sick but had to rest more and use an inhaler 2-3 times a day. Didn’t help a lot. Fatigue and breathing were the worse I had to deal with. Fatigue is better but can’t play my flute as I don’t have the breath and can’t talk too long without having problems but that is getting some better. Still a little difficult getting a full satisfying lung filled breath. So, compared to others, scary but a walk in the park. I’m female, 77 years old and live alone. For someone my age and health problems I was one of the fortunate ones and certainly not telling anyone it’ll be ok. COVID strikes differently across the board and definitely not to be taken lightly. But also not necessarily something to panic about either if you have it. Hope this helps
Hi Suzy,
I had covid in early April and my ET was discovered off the back of investigations into my post covid symptoms (elevated platelets, fatigue, shortness of breath, fluctuations in heart rate etc).
For me recovering from covid was a very long and drawn out process, it physically wiped me out for about 6months. I’m 38 and generally fit & healthy.
It’s a complex disease with lots of unknowns but for sure hyper inflammation is a major factor influencing covid symptom burden. My suspicion is that having ET exacerbated my hyper immune response to covid.
Still have some residual cardiac issues and bouts of heavy fatigue but doing much better overall.
I’m 48 With ET and had Covid in November. For me I had headaches and low grade fevers at night for about 5 days, nothing ibuprofen couldn’t handle. When the fevers went down I put on a sweat suit and rode my exercise Bike to drop about 5# of water weight then rehydrate for the next few hours and I think that helped recovery some. I got my first vaccine shot around 10 days ago and was warned that since I had Covid in the last 90 days that I could see symptoms of Covid again. YA they weren’t kidding, within 3 hrs. I was 103.1 ibuprofen and Tylenol this time to get it down and that lasted around 30 hrs or so but that was my only symptom. I can’t wait for the second shot.....
That’ll be lovely when you have your second shot- hopefully soon. It’s such a horrible virus. Take care. XX
