I have had no side effects from aspirin but clopidogrel gave me terrible mouth ulcers
We each react differently to medication but I found myself in hospital with internal bleeding that was attributed to clopidogrel. I went back to aspirin and persantin but due to low platelets now I am not on anti platelet medication.
As you will see we all react differently. I was in hospital with a major stomach bleed 8 or so years ago. My Heam changed my aspirin to clopidogrel as he said it was kinder on the stomach. I’ve had no problems since.
I was on Aspirin and had G.I. Bleed and changed to Clopidogrel as told it is kinder to stomach. Been on it six months now and hopefully OK.
Thanks
I have ET, diagnosed about 6 years ago. For a long time I was on low dose, enteric coated asprin, but it did eventially cause internal bleeding in my lower gut.
Switched to Clopidogrel and been ok since.
Sounds like we all can get different reactions?
In fact I have reduced intake recently as due an unrelated procedure, so stopped blood thinner, and no change to platelet count anyway. So perhaps HU is doing the job on its own?
Can I ask those who had a bleed how you knew you were bleeding, especially if it was a subtle slow bleed. The reason I ask is that my Ferritin level has been at 4 for at least 8 months to my knowledge. My haemaglobin is just below or just above the lower limit. At my last telephone call with my haematologist she said my iron level is low and has been consistently low for some time. She said I may have an internal bleed as I was on aspirin. She asked if I thought I had and had any signs. I don't have any pain or any other obvious signs, so just asking if those with a bleed had any other signs to look out for. Keep safe.
Mine was a huge bleed which happened all of a sudden. I had what I thought was a sickness and diarrhoea bug. But I was bleeding with it. I ended up in hospital for 7 days with cameras in every orifice. Very worrying but luckily all was ok.
Mine Started with mild stomach discomfort. I thought it was indigestion. But, didn’t improve, tried tums and acid reducer meds. Finally, went to gastro dr. She did endoscopy and found bleeding and ulcer. I’ve was on aspirin for 15 years without issue, but it finally caught up to me. bleeding from aspirin is not uncommon. My dad has been on aspirin for 40 years without any issues.
Thanks for reply. Other than the occasional indigestion I have no issues. I've been on Lanzaprozole for years. I had stomach ulcer 30 years ago and recognise that pain. I have another haematologist appointment in January. Two months appointment instead of 3 monthly. Have to see what bloods are like then. Obviously they don't want to give me iron tablets or bone marrow will think its Christmas and birthday rolled into one and we start the venesection cycle again. Take care.
