Hello everyone, I have ET for last 4 years. I am on Aspirin only, platelets count is pretty constant between 600 to 700. I am 37 years old and have two kids. I want to try for pregnancy but I am afraid. Anyone here who can offer some advice regarding pregnancy with ET?
Thanks a lot. This forum helped me a lot when I was diagnosed for the first time. So again I am here to get insight of folks.

I think this is too complicated a question for an online discussion.Speak to yr gp or midwife.
Good luck!
Hello Mustabshra hope you are keeping well. My name is Marilyn and I’m part of the MPN Voice team. For a bit of information about Pregnancy and an MPN, have a look at the MPN Voice website at. mpnvoice.org.uk The main thing is to discuss this with your Haematologist before you start trying for a baby, so that you know all information and get good advice right from the beginning.
Hi there. Definitely ask your hematologist and OB regarding your specifics first. But for me, I was diagnosed with ET while pregnant. My healthy baby is now 9 months old. ET did not affect my pregnancy much at all. I wasted A LOT of time worrying. I should have listened to my doctors wholeheartedly when that reassured me about ET during pregnancy. Once I was diagnosed, they put me on Lovenox injections (baby-safe blood thinner) and low-dose aspirin. My pregnancy proceeded as relatively normal after that. There are only a few studies out there I dug up in research journals about pregnancy and ET. To summarize, we do have an increased risk of miscarriage in the first trimester but after that, the stats are about the same for the general population. Both for baby and mother.
I had my 2nd baby at 40. I developed ET sometime between my 1st and 2nd baby. I did experience 2 miscarriages (first trimester mc's) after my 1st baby, but of course, who knows if it had anything to do with ET. Age and other factors play a role too. From my research and doctors opinion, ET should not be considered detrimental for pregnancy. But of course, you'll want to check with your doctors about your specific case. Good Luck! Feel free to reach out if you have any more questions.
Hey there! I was diagnosed just prior to pregnancy (through testing prior to IVF). I was on lovenox through all fertility treatments (unrelated to ET), pregnancy and for 12 weeks post-partum. I ended up delivering early due to preeclampsia & hellp, but there's no clear answer as to whether the ET contributed. Probably not. I know several people who have had that without ET, so it may just be I hit the lottery :). My baby is doing great after a very early (30+5) week delivery due to the preeclampsia.
I highly recommend you consult with your doctors about whether you should just be on asprin or whether they want you on lovenox. I think Lovenox is pretty important and can help protect the pregancy as well as you because of the increased risk of clots inherent to both ET and pregnancy.
ET shouldn't affect a pregnancy, except you will always have an increased risk of clots. That should be able to be managed with a blood thinner, which for me was no big deal.
Totally understand where you’re coming from mustabshra! Planning to start trying myself in March 🤞🏻
The medical advice I’ve been given is that healthy pregnancy and delivery is absolutely possible with ET, just need to take Low Molecular Weight Heparin and be closely monitored for the duration of pregnancy. As already mentioned, slightly higher incidence of miscarriage and clotting is a risk factor that’s important to manage. Definitely worth discussing with your haematologist in advance 💚
