I was advised to go home today from my company as they had received the new government guidelines regarding those who had been shielding in the first lockdown.
I am waiting to find out if I will be on furlough again.
I thought I was just getting back to a bit of normality but here we go again.
I believed we just had to be extra careful as I had been but obviously not?
If you see in their new guidelines below it advises if you can’t work from home you should not attend work during this period
I’m gutted as I think my workplace has done well at being Covid secure but I suppose it better to be safe than sorry.
If you are to shield again then please all stay safe and remember it’s only 4 weeks, we have fine slot longer.

Yes, another omnishambles! We are not shielding according to BoJo et al but are advised not to go to work, the shops or even the pharmacy - it's all beyond comprehensible!
Your employer seems to be very responsibly looking after your welfare and good for them. I'd guess that they will furlough you again.
Best wishes
Andy
(writing this has given me welcome relief from twiddling my thumbs)
The government had announced the return to shielding earlier in the week so no surprise and in the view of my consultant essential and should never have been relax3d.
Absolutely! Yet we can still look after grandchildren who are at school. This pandemic isn’t being handled very well. But we have to look after ourselves.
I got the email from Matt Hancock and it does seem like the left and doesn’t know what the right hand is doing when you listen to Boris flippant comments about shielding. I am lucky that I can work from home but it is your employees duty of care to make sure you are safe
Yes, it was a bit of a blow! I'd just returned to work following mat leave, and been offered a more interesting role, and then got the email. Was in two minds whether to inform employer, but have, and now on furlough
the Government is issuing new guidance to clinically extremely vulnerable people. This is set out in the following pages. Whilst this is not a return to the very restrictive shielding advice you may have followed earlier in the year, you are strongly advised to follow these extra precautionary shielding measures to help keep yourself safe. This remains advice, not the law.’
So we’re not legally obliged to follow their advice but it does seem logical to do so?
Yes I had the email Wednesday evening. My consultant told me in the summer when the gov stopped shielding that it was rubbish and I was continue shielding as nothing had changed, so I have been. Fortunately I don’t work. Good luck.
Hubby never had a letter originally so won't get an email I assume. I have told him he needs to keep 2m away from the rest of us but he rolled his eyes & that's where it will stand.
It seems the advice in Wales is different to that in England. My letter for the Welsh 2 week lockdown just advised being very careful but no work restrictions. I am retired so do not have the worry of going to work.
As a fellow gooner I felt I should reply 😉. I had my government advisory email late last Wednesday evening. I was diagnosed with ET Jak2+ a year ago and shielded during first lockdown. On anagrelide and aspirin and thankfully responding well and platelets are slowly coming down. Ongoing symptoms are fatigue, insomnia, itchy skin, underlying tremoring, fingertip pins and needles, Splenic pain. But apart from that I'm managing this my way and trying to keep positive. I work full time for my local NHS Trust hospital as a medical secretary, love my job, it keeps me sane. Last time I couldn't work from home and 4 months of first lockdown was awful towards the end. I live on my own but family far and wide so loneliness was a big thing for me. This time work are giving me a laptop with vpn so I can continue working which I'm so happy about. Nhs extremely clinically vulnerable staff are given special leave during the lockdown so I receive full pay. I know I'm lucky to be able to retain my job. Although it was becoming too risky being at the hospital daily with the rising cases and admissions. Covid is sadly sweeping through the staff. Reading local news articles that public are still no adhering to rules in shops etc. I fear this will continue until a vaccine is rolled out next spring. Keep safe, keep sane, keep hoping 🙏
