Anyone with experience of both aspirin and Clopidogrel (Plavix)?

My hematologist wanted to change my Aspirin to clopiogrel instead. I am not familiar with this drug. I am very cautious with new drugs and would like to ask you if anyone out there knows anything about this?

I wish you all a nice day!

The main reason for this being that my upset stomach is bothering me so much. (My theory is that I’ve got som kind of inflammatory condition)

Hi, I have taken Clopidogrel for approx. 11 or 12 years now. It is very easy asI dont need to check my INR or so. Seems to work fine with for anyway. I drink Kefir in the morning before any medication , just 30 minutes or so before. That seems to keep my stomack happy!

Thanks! Thats good to hear! I guess I’ll give it a go and see what happens. Btw do you make your own kefir?

You can make your own but need kefir grains. I think in the UK Polish shops and even some supermarkets sell kefir

Yes, I do. Most people give away grains. It is best to do your own as you know whatis in it aswell as the cost. Nearle everyone on my street have kefir now!

I was changed to clopidogral to see if it improved my circulation, sadly it didn’t and I ended up on hydroxy. I never had any bother with it, I went back onto the aspirin but have to have the coated ones as the other irritate my stomach. Take care, I hope they work well for you xx

Unlike other comments, I had to stop taking clopidogral as I was allergic to it. Within hours of taking it I developed a full body rash. I was put back on the coated aspirin and have been taking it for years with no problems - I also had a stomach ulcer way back in 1999 and it doesn't irritate my stomach.

I developed internal bleeding that was attributed to clopidogrel but as far as I know that is not at all common. Having a very low platelet count now I do not take any anti platelet medication.

Best wishes, Jan

Hi yes I changed- the reason being an upset stomach. This was before I was diagnosed. Unfortunately it didn’t make a difference and I still had to use an antacid.

Given the choice I would stay on asprin. Purely because you can buy over the counter should you forget to take your meds away with you.

I’m still on clopidogrel.

I was changed from aspirin to Clopidogrel in April as I had a bleed somewhere intestinal which they thought might have been stomach caused by aspirin. (Never had endoscopy because of Covid shut down). I feel that I get painful tummy and extreme wind with Clopidog but ok apart from that. I'd rather go back on aspirin though but can't take PPI's. Good luck in your decision. Best wishes Fran

I was first put on aspirin but couldn't tolerate it after a week, it hurt my stomach. My haematologist changed to clopidogrel for me , been taking it over a year and is fine and it doesn't hurt my stomach at all.
