Hi, I recently posted after it was discussed at clinic about changing from HU to peg. I have never felt well on HU . At my clinic appointment this week I got the impression that the fact that I was on thyroxine for hypothyroidism might be a stumbling block. Has anyone else started peg with this ? I think I have read that Inteferon can affect your thyroid but on thyroxine for 30+ years so it is relatively stable. Anyone have any experiences ?
Thanks x

Hi, they have really developed peg interferon in recent years. While I do not have any issues with thyroid etc.. I know they have made it v safe to use. I only have a positive experience since using it about three months ago. I'm 27 and my doctor assured me this was the best option , particularly considering my age.
Sorry to hear you are struggling with HU toxicity. Unfortunately, it is all too common. I was also one of those who could not tolerate it. Interferons can impact thyroid function as I understand it. I believe that HU can as well. We each respond differently to each of these meds and it can be hard to predict. I would suggest getting your hematology team and endocrine team to collaborate on this. (As in actually talk to each other). If you are not already seeing a MPN Specialist rather than a regular hematologist, I would do that ASAP. You really need need input from a doc with the right KSAs when things get more complex.
