Hello, just wondering if any of you have had any dental issues while on Hydroxycarbamide? My Haem. specialist advised there are not many problems. I need two fillings and he advised I can have the fillings while on HU, just would have to stop aspirin approx 5/7 days prior. Thank you

Hydroxycarbamide and Dentistry
Hi,I have been on hydroxycarbamide for 12 years and not had any problems regarding dentistry.I also work in a dental practice and my husband is a dentist and he says the same thing. It is the bloodthinning or anti platelet medication that might need to be set out a few days before treatment. On the other hand, in these Covid times,if it is an aerosol procedure and if it was me, I would think long and hard if it is needed to do these fillings right now. If it is, then of course you need to decide how long before you should stop the aspirin. Mind you, fillings are different so depending on what type of filling you might not need to stop but let your dentist advice you. Good luck and take care!
Thank you for you reply, appreciated, I have been avoiding commencing with HU for many reasons, but think now i should give it a go.
I forgot to ask, I need two fillings, but due to covid and expense after nearly £300+ privately due to lack of NHS (for deep cleaning/clean and consultation to check....finding NHS is really difficult.....so as your partner is a Dentist, can you please ask him if taking HU with existing 2 x fillings required would not make too many invasive problems - thank you
