I hope all are doing well and managing throughout this rather fascinating chapter of our human journey...
Guys, I have been promising for some time now to share the results of a small project that I have personally been involved w/ and below is what I have gleaned thus far... I hope that you might also find it of some small curiosity too...
RAW BEETROOT ONCE DIGESTED BECOMES NITRIC OXIDE (N0)
Hi Steve, thank you for posting. Its really very interesting indeed. I would not have heard of this had you not posted! I look forward to your updates on this. I personally cant stand beetroot 🤣🤣
I must confess... It is not the first taste sensation I would reach for, (if taste was the ONLY attraction). However, so far these results do seem interesting...
Yes, it does taste better in a salad than it does as a raw juice (syrup)... However, there appears to be some benefit. I will keep it going and see what develops I guess...
I tried the beetroot juice thing when doing lots of sport after reading an article about the beneficial effects years ago - not sure it did me any good.... I’m doing my very own trial of having an aperitif (more on the Vespa Martini line 🍸) before dinner EVERY night - in the last six months my LD has gone down, as has my cholesterol, glucose, triglycerides- make if that what you will, I’m going to carry on 😀
Apparently, and according to the Peer-Reviewed Papers I have studied, the method is a pretty strict type of recipe etc.
Once digested, the previous inorganic nitrate that is constituent of Beetroot, becomes 'Nitric Oxide N0' and it is N0 that is used in the 'Ventilator' machines used to help CV–19 patients because of its vasodilation properties...
These days, I do not consume any alcohol at all, and I am finding that aids me and my ability to deal w/ my ongoing fatigue, which is still of course my unwanted constant companion...
That's interesting because I had beetroots on my 'increases platelets' list. I just did a quick google and found this "Beet root also prevents the free radical damage of platelets and helps in increasing its number. Therefore, consuming a glass of beet root juice can greatly help in increasing the number of platelets."18 Aug 2020 This was not in a scientific journal -just a newspaper on a piece about dengue fever. But I also found this nhs.uk/news/food-and-diet/b... (admittedly 2010 and the issue seems to have been addressed in some of your articles.)
As far as I can see there seems to be concensus on the benefit of NO in beetroots, even if only short term and there is disagreement in whether they increase or decrease platelet count -just a quick google and I will certainly look further. Anyway, your results look on the positive side and thank you for the long reference list.
I was wondering how your plant based diet was going -might some of these results be measuring the impact of that? Has your stamina been improved?
Good luck with the next results and keep us posted.
Interesting findings via 'Dr Google'... However, I am afraid I tend to rely more on 'peer-reviewed' findings, as part of the mandate of Papers composed in this method is that other academics will either contest and/ or agree based upon their own independent research & review of the subject content etc... and in this way creates a greater level of consensus, in my view...
Hey but, my trial is only in the very early stages, and at this juncture anything could prove possible, (remembering that these results will really only be in application to my own body chemistry & eco-system etc). Hence, it does not automatically mean that others would benefit in exactly the same way... We are all just a tad different after all, are we not?
I have little doubt that I am benefitting from the 'Plant-based' diet, (& especially where a reduction in bodily 'Inflammation' might be concerned). However, the benefits of the the 'Nitric Oxide (N0), are more properly associated w/ vasodilation. Which really appears to improve both my endurance during intense cycling efforts, as well as recovery during and after said cycling. It also has the ability to reduce Blood Pressure (BP), again I believe that this might also be attributed to far greater circulation. The N0 both opens the endothelial sheaths of our systems and helps to oxidate the muscles as required:
"The endothelium is a thin membrane that lines the inside of the heart and blood vessels. Endothelial cells release substances that control vascular relaxation and contraction as well as enzymes that control blood clotting, immune function and platelet (a colourless substance in the blood) adhesion"
Like I said, still early days but so far, (& as is evidenced from my last three (3) Bloods), my Platelets are decreasing as desired... Fingers & toes remain crossed of course...
