Interferon and unsettled digestion

Hi everyone, I hope that you’re all keeping well.

I just have a quick question about Interferon and whether anybody experienced some abdominal discomfort and a slightly irritated bowl and if so, did you find anything that helped? I’ve been taking Peg Interferon for 5 weeks now, the first 4 weeks I was on a 45mg dose and have now gone up to 90mgs. I have had a slightly upset bowl for that entire time. When I was on Hydroxy, I had a couple of weeks of discomfort but then it improved. Do you think I can expect things to get better with the Interferon as well?

All the best,

Joe

Hi Joe, when I started on Pegasys in 2015 (90mcg) I recall having an upset bowl for a while. It settled down. I also had hair loss and mouth sores at that dose which also eventually settled. After a year I reduced the dose to 45mcg/ weekly, and have since spaced out the injections further - and have no side effects currently. Hopefully things will settle for you soon. Susana

Thanks for your reply Susana7, it’s always reassuring to hear people have experienced similar issues to your own and come out the other side in good form. I also had the mouth ulcers and they seem to be clearing up, so hopefully everything else will settle down as well.

Thanks again for your reply, it’s very much appreciated as ever. All the best for the future,

Joe

I had the same at the start - got prescribed Ondansetron tablets and they definitely helped

Thanks for that Tylerdog1, that sounds like useful information, I’ll discuss that at my next appointment.
