I guess that no one, (including myself), should really be surprised to learn that the major reason Why the Mask debate continues really only comes back to one very sad fact – "Follow the money"
It has now been shown many times over that ALL types of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), and especially in concert w/ all of the CV-19 safety protocols MOST of us are endeavouring to follow, can and do show extremely far more positive outcomes when they are employed, as opposed to when they are not...
Following below is a small story on video that speaks volumes in this regard, and it is followed by a Link to an important recent study on the Benefits of Wearing a Mask...
However, another of the major problems I have personally observed when I was out at a cafe recently w/ friends I've not seen in some time... Naturally, I adore all my friends, goes w/out saying really...
This group have a Mediterranean heritage, and out at the cafe one of them expressed to me, "Well we are Maltese, we always have big family outings and that's why our next big family event will go ahead as planned, and there will be cuddling and kissing as always... because that's just the way we are..."
Naturally, I understand, however, this type of statement exemplifies just how hard it is for humans to adapt and change, and even when our lives might depend upon it...
Another very interesting fact that was recently discussed is how approximately 50% of those tested positive for CV–19 displayed no symptoms...
Very best wishes guys, stay safe & well...
Steve

Hopefully, people will eventually realise that we all need to do everything we can to halt this pandemic., irrespective of how challenging doing so might prove to be...
I cut up an old "Liberty" skirt that I haven't worn in years. 100% cotton with a lovely design of blue briar roses. The pleated face covering was a bit of a fiddle to make but the shaped one was easier. The first one is always the hardest but the more you make the quicker and easier it gets! Give it a go!
Thank you for the video - I saw an article about 2 nail technicians who both had Covid but did not know at the time and treatments over 80 people during that time until they had a test due to symptoms arriving. They wore masks, gloves and shields and none of their customers caught the virus as a result which shows how much they prevent the spread of the virus. It really is a no brainer to me and I took my children out for the day on Sunday and we all wore our masks all day apart from eating - they did not moan once and shows they are more grown up than some adults I have seen on the news or read quotes from social media! I have been disappointed that some supermarkets are not enforcing this though - I think they should adopt an approach of offering a mask before people walk in and say you cant shop if you don't - Disney store are doing this and when we went last week nobody was not accepting them as really wanted to go in! Like most I have been shielding but decided to start seeing the world again a couple of weeks ago rather than wait until 1 August - its been a bit of a shock at times especially when someone swore at me in the middle of the supermarket when he stepped over me and my child to grab some fruit and I just said excuse me i will only be 10 seconds and got a load of abuse and he also commented on my mask in a rude way. For a piece of material that could save someone else's life it really has divided the nation!
There are lots of people who seem to think they are invincible and it won't happen to them. As the saying goes - if you don't like the mask you're really going to dislike the ventilator!
I've been making masks for the past few months and have given them away to friends and family who have all been really grateful. However since it became the rule to wear them in shops I have suddenly become a lot more popular with people I haven't seen/spoken to for ages all saying - "oh if you could just make me 2 or 3 and can I have them in certain colours because on Ebay/Amazon etc they are x amount of money" - well guess what no! I enjoy sewing and have got pleasure in matching the fabrics to the people I've given them to but there are costs involved and the people who have asked me haven't been willing to pay for the fabric/elastic/thread or my time.
I haven't left the house much but I have worn a mask when I have done, but there are plenty who don't/won't and think because others are wearing a mask they don't have to. I see lots of people all crowding together, touching etc. You've only got to watch the news and see the journalists crowded together trying to get pictures of whoever is in the news that day.
I would love to see some pictures of your masks. You are obviously a very talented, innovative, and creative spirit...
Love to see some pics if you have any...
If you were here I am sure that I would be very willing to have you make a few masks for me... At your prices too, as I am sure the craft-person-ship would be impeccable...
Actually, I was just talking about doing so myself w/ our Ozzie MPN-MATE website Logo on the Mask... Yes, I know a bit corny I guess... BUT... hey... It just might start off a new trend, where people start seeing 'Masks' as a new fashion accessory of sorts... Why not?
Victoria, down here in the Land of Oz, has just made masks mandatory for the whole state now not just Melbourne...
Woolworths (grocery shopping centres all over Australia), are now strongly advising that Masks be worn in all their supermarkets...
Hence, if we have to wear them, then let's a the very least make it an enjoyable & functional item of attire, and if nothing else... a topic of discourse amid our 'New Normal'
I haven’t taken many photos of the finished masks, I’ve just taken one of some of the leftover fabrics I’ve used, but I don’t know how to add it! all the Star Wars fabric has been used, (very popular with the male side of the family) also the Disney stuff has gone. Still got some with fairies on and polka dots. A lot of the material with dogs on has gone, a small amount of ditsy floral is left, hardly any Peter Rabbit left - that was popular with the nurses in the family, Probably just enough of the caravans and cycles fabric to make one more mask. I’ll try and find out how to add a photo. ( probably a passing 5 year old could do it blindfolded 😂)
I am in awe of you! I made about 10, then got bored 😐.
I haven’t worked out how to add a photo part way through a thread. I think you have to start a new post and there is an option then to add a photo. I would love to see them too. I agree with you on the cost. Just a metre of cotton fabric is expensive and if you have bought lots of different designs it can cost a fortune. I just bought one lot, black and white sheep on a grey background.
I have no problem with wearing a mask, it’s just that no matter what type I wear my glasses steam up. I’ve tried all the tips given. So, I’m down to essential shopping only and only buy what I can see. 😎
