Below are the results of a recent study as to the benefits or otherwise of adopting the use of precautionary methods, such as: hand sanitising, physical distancing, and the utilisation of PPE even in non-healthcare settings...
The implications of the findings (below), speak for themselves, now... if I could only have my naive sister read and understand why it's so important NOT to visit her frail and ageing mother, (especially because she does NOT don PPE or abide by the required precautions), when visiting her very ill friend in a palliative aged care centre, (who also has cancer), she endeavours to come and visit our very frail and immobile mother... Again. w/out the correct levels of precaution being observed, and w/out allowing a 14 day period after her friend's visits etc... She is quite seriously wreckless, and her ignorance is dangerous, in my view...
Unfortunately, my sister is a Christian religious fanatic of sorts, and simply believes her deity will solve all her problems... She gives me nightmares... There is no way to seemingly make her understand... My tolerance and patience are grown exhausted by her antics, and her level of uninformed ignorance... CV–19 has so many often under calculated, and unseen ramifications...
In my layperson's view, we here in Australia, have only just commenced our winter season, (coughs colds, & flus are only now rearing their ugly heads), and at the same time, our governments have commenced easing all of our CV–19 restrictions, (fearing the economic ramifications), which has in turn developed as a false-sense of complacency among many within the general populace, including my sister who does NOT listen to the news or inform herself other than by 'word of mouth'...
Please remain vigilant, & stay safe & well, all of you...
Steve
Physical distancing, face masks, and eye protection to prevent person-to-person transmission of SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19: a systematic review and meta-analysis
I to am a Christian, but am also concerned when reading your post. We are not meant to fear but have faith and hand all our cares over to God. That said ignorance in what is going on around us is not alway as the saying goes ‘bliss’. I will pray for your sister and others now as God can stop us in our foolish ways. Hope your keeping well x
It is not my intention to belittle or demean the beliefs of others...
However, when my very frail mother's life is put a risk out of someone's ignorance, (& not just anyone but one of her daughters – my own sister), I grow somewhat disturbed by those events...
History, and religions seemingly share more causes of death than have global viral pandemics, in my short life, and personally I prefer the lyrics of one fine musician who penned: "Imagine" "...and no religions too..."
What a world it might be...
Stay safe & well... and I appreciate & welcome the intent of your response... Thank you...
Hi Steve, you are are such a supportive member of this forum and I'm sorry you are being put through such a stressful time by what I believe is a distorted version of faith. I am also a Christian (particularly liberal minded I think) but faith in a deity does NOT absolve us from acting responsibly, as if God works magic and gives us special protection. I hope that others at your sister's church will encourage her to see sense. Very best wishes, Jennie
Good Morning Steve; I feel your pain for sure. As a pastor recently reopening the church we laid down social distancing guidelines, provide touch less surfaces , hand sanitizers , separate room for young family’s to color together while the service is streaming, also stream on YouTube for those with compromised immune issues, also broadcast our Sunday Service live in our radio station. Taking all precautions and considerations of others some folks don’t get it. They think it’s all over reaction and that the news breeds fear etc. There is a balance between extreme fear and presumption. We both have older moms in their 80’s. We shop for them and also visit maintaining social distance. So far since the inception of the pandemic nobody in our family or church community has been ill with covid 19. That’s not saying we are not vulnerable as we know we all are. Basic sensitivity needs modeled like hand washing, social distancing , masks for those who are health compromised, building up immune system as best we can. Hopefully your sister will stand to reason and listen. We’re all dealing with limited mortality as a human race and we need to be taught to number our days and apply our hearts unto wisdom 😊
These are sound words of wisdom... And precisely the aims we all need to take in remaining vigilant throughout these extraordinarily challenging times...
I completely understand your situation! I'm really sorry to hear of this added and unessesary pressure. People are acting as if COVID is over and that taking precautions is a bit OTT. Stay safe and take care.
I don't have a religion, but think people can do what they want, so long as it only affects them... Anyone can take a risk with their own life, but not with anyone else's!
It'd be interesting to know if prayer does protect, though I doubt it myself. So frustrating for you that your sister is being this way, hope she sees sense!
Like you, I do not follow a specific religion of any kind... And I respect the rights of others to do as they choose to of course...
Philosophically, I see that all life is connected, and that the Earth itself is simply one larger organism made of many smaller parts, in which ALL life forms are included...
We humans are often far too arrogant, (in my view), in believing that we have some special right or place in the order of things, that other life forms do not...
In any event, I shall cease from my ramblings, and simply say thank you...
