I am 42 and diagnosed with PV 5 years ago. So far I am just taking aspirin and occasional phlebotomy, although my platelet and white counts are on a bit high. I have been pretty asymptomatic, aside from itching.
My hem says she thinks that my itching is more allergy related because I itch when clothes rub my skin, or I put lotion on, and when I get into bed where my clothes are against the sheets...
I don't have it directly relating to hot water... It doesn't last long, but definitely annoying that whenever I get dressed or itch a spot, it continues for about 5-10 mins.
Anyone else have this? Is this an allergy thing?? Or a PV thing?? It is so hard to tell!

I also get itching that is not aquagenic pruritis. It is from eczema. I believe that the eczema (and other inflammatory issues I experience) are all related to the JAK2 mutation. Overactivation of the JAK-STAT pathway does more than drive hematopoiesis. It also triggers the overproduction of inflammatory cytokines. These cytokines are thought to be responsible for many of the secondary symptoms we experience.
FYI - I have had great luck with Eucrisa for treating the eczema. It works great. It is also important to prevent the eczema for occurring in the first place. Ceramide based cleansers followed up by ceramide based creams after bathing (e.g. CeraVe) help to maintain a healthy skin moisture barrier. Prevention is the best cure of all.
