Hello, I’m new to the group. I’m trying to understand the pain I’m experiencing and to see if anyone else experiences the same type. I have ET and possible MF (my fibers are low and do not score at this time). I have numerous other health conditions and trying to figure what pain goes with what? The worst pain I get is like an ice pick being stabbed randomly in my legs or arms. I also have dull aching in my wrist knees and fingers that can increase into intense pain. When the pain is at its worst it can take my breath away and bring me to tears. I’ve lived with pain for years but it’s getting worse and more often. I also have fibromyalgia so I don’t know what causes what. Any input from anyone who can relate would be greatly appreciated. Just trying to figure me out. Thank you

Before I even got to the point where you said you had Fibromyalgia I thought “Fibromyalgia”. I have never suffered with it myself but my mother does and your description is perfect to what she suffers with.
You don’t say what medication you are taking for your ET. Have you looked on the advice slip from your medication box to see if it describes any of these pains in the possible symptom section?
Unfortunately joint pain goes with any MPN but it is usually aches not stabbing.
Worth talking to your consultant at the next visit.
Hi, I have similar pain. I put the dull aches down to my arthritis but the stabbing in my shins I am sure is ET related. Fortunately it is intermittent
It is really hard to figure out what is related to the MPN and what is not. If you are JAK2 positive, it would be a good idea to learn more about the link between the JAK2 mutation and inflammatory cytokines. The short version is that in addition to driving up hematopoiesis, the JAK2 mutation can cause your body to produce an excess of a host of inflammatory cytokines. These cytokines are thought to be responsible for many of the secondary symptoms people with MPNs experience.
If you are JAK2+ - it is worth the time to look into some of the research. There is quite a bit out there at this point.
Hi Stilla, I also tipped on Fibromyalgia. My 15 yr old has it. When my thrombos get high (I’m one that hops sound with my numbers), then I have pain in my legs and wrists and fingers. I had that all night last night. Then I take a tiny bit more aspirin or Ginkgo to thin my blood more. Also don’t forget to drink water. The blood has to keep moving.
Try to eat an antiinflammatory diet! That help so much. Clean whole foods. Nothing processed, else the inflammation increased. Inflammation is the mother of almost all illnesses.
Like u, I am having systems that my GP has not helped with. I've had to try to be a physician for myself. I first learned about iron overload n sticky blood on YouTube n going to various "functional medicine MD's" on there. There are several really great docs on there. After asking n insisting that my my GP check my iron levels be checked, they were found to be elevated. I feel that contributed greatly to my liver issues. So now, through diet, I plan to get them down. Enough of me, I mainly wanted to tell you about the wonderful resources on "Youtube." Dr. Mark Hyman is one of several, that I checked with. Just type in your systems and/or ?'s on Youtube and that should pull up lots of info. I am constantly searching on the web too. I've often found, that it's mainly diet related. Your pain sounds like it may be neurological? Take care all...
