Hi
This is a photo of the cover of the brilliant Fast Facts summary paperback for MPNs. Maz trailed it earlier, and I got a copy from Amazon a few weeks ago. It does what it says on the tin, and has chapters on the current WHO diagnostic criteria for MF, PV and ET ( so you and your haematologist can be sure that the diagnosis is acurate) and the current best available treatment options. And summaries and references for the peer reviewed evidence that forms the basis for decision making.
It also has a page at the end of useful resources, with links to UK, USA, Canadian and Australian MPN groups.
It’ll go out of date quickly ,which is great, because progresss is happening fast and new evidence is coming in all the time.
It’s worth getting hold of a copy, just to educate your non specialist MPN practitioners, if for no other reason.
The table of contents can be a bit cryptic if you aren't familiar with the language, so here is a translation of the chapter headingsfrom a patient’s perspective.
1. Pathogenesis and etiology
Trans What goes wrong that gives you an MPN
2.Epidemiology
Trans Who get MPNs, and how common are they?
3. Diagnosis and disease burden
Trans How do you tell which MPN you have ( World Health Organisation criteria) and how seriously are you affected ( levels of risk categories, and the various scoring systems)
4.Management of ET
5.Management of PV
6.Management of MF
Trans Current Best Available Treatment options for the various MPNs
7.New treatments for MPNs
Trans What’s coming along
8. Management of specific situations
Trans Women ( pregnancy, contraception) and children with MPNs are different from adult men.
9.Management of MPN blast phase
Trans Sometimes ( but rarely) it ends with leukaemia.
Anyhow, I’ll be bringng my copy along to the Oxford Forum for reference.
All the best
Rachel
