Diet confusion

Many of the posts I've read on here say they eat a anti inflammatory diet ? I've been reading about this and I do already eat a lot of the food suggested so that was a positive. My question is do people on here eat rice, brown of course, white potatoes and pasta again brown varieties?

I’m on a ketogenic diet (very anti-inflammatory) and this excludes all grains and legumes (so def no pasta, rice etc - even the brown or whole grain versions) - plus most below-ground vegetables and any form of sugar. I also practise intermittent fasting 2 or 3 times a week.

I feel great - lots of energy, sleep well, work out every week day. I’m 62 - ET JAK2 positive and on just baby aspirin.

It’s working for me so I’m sticking with it.

Just curious how long you fast for? I always do 12 hours but aim for 14 hrs. I've wondered if it was ok for us.

Hi

No rice, pasta, potatoes , flour or sugar. The best way to explain it is "nothing white". .Lots of fermented food and kefir.

Hi swede I've been reading about fermented food and it sounds like a good choice with all its health benefits. Problem is Im not sure how to incorporate it into my diet as I'm not familiar with it-what would you suggest as a starting point? Also do you know if soya products are anti inflammatory? There's so much confusing information out there it's hard to know what you should be eating although I think I've established whole grains are ok and brown rice and apparently the sprouted version is the best🤔whatever that is ???? I'm going to try and cut out dairy I thought I'd go for almond milk instead. It seems you can get fumented yoghurt so that could be an option if I can find it?? I think I'm going to require a few hours in the supermarket tomorrow.

Hi swede thanks I've had a browse on the diet doctor some interesting information.

I bought some fumented milk and yoghurt but read it contains vit k2 which I've read thickens the blood so am a bit worried about incorporateing it into my diet. Do you have fumented yoghurt?;I bought the cows milk version so not sure if that's right either as read you're suppose to avoid dairy?

Hi there, well, actuallyI make my own Kefit which is cheaper and I know then what is in it.In the process of the kefir being made, it all becomes so good that lactose intolerant people can drink it! Here is one of many pages that explains what Kefir is et cetera, but I am sure you can find some as well if you Google it.

That's a very interesting read and I think I may have a go at making some myself. The information given about the shop bought kifir containing vit k 2 seems to be right I'm not sure if this applies to the home made stuff- in other words I'm not sure if the vit k2 is added or develops as part of the process? Interesting thought did you see the post from Jean in response to my vitk question ?

Hi Camelian. I stopped eating rice rather than using the 'cardboard' variety because I ache if I have it. Potatoes remain white but I don't eat them that often and always leave skins on. Pasta is something I have never been a friend of due to its effect on my body. I have a problem with heavy carbohydrates such as this. Hope this is helpful. ATB.x

I eat all of the above white not brown rice. I took turmeric for ages but went through a stage of having judge bruises. The heamo told me to stop. No large bruises since.

I guess it's true to say everyone is different. I think my plan moving forward is to eat a healthy balanced diet. I have already cut out the cakes biscuits and junk food with the exception of the off dessert on special occasions 🙄

I’m also a little confused, at the hospital last week I asked about diet and was told it would make no difference (obviously an all round healthy diet is recommended) because the problem is with my bone marrow (ET Jak2 positive)

I'm with you Debborah my heamotologist told me the same thing. It is all very confusing especially when you start researching. I looked at an anti inflammatory diet and took from that stick to a Mediterranean diet? Then was reading about avoiding nightshade veg which are part of the Mediterranean diet??? Then read you shouldn't eat beans kidney, baked, chick peas etc? Then read you should eat soya?? Then read you should keep your iron levels down, not sure if this is for ET?? So yes it's all very confusing. Ended up eating an egg salad last night for tea then read on an anti cancer diet site not to eat certain varieties of egg, well the yolks. Oops too late??? So as I said I will just be sticking to a healthy balanced diet but will include some fumented food and of course the odd treat.

I don’t know of any diet that helps the disease but I do intermittent fasting. I eat during an 8 hour window and fast for 16. My platelets keep inching up but I feel great. I’m down 10 pounds in two months and my fatigue issues are much less.
