First day of Pegasys.

After two and half years on hydroxycarbamide, today was my first day on Pegasys. Injected myself for the first time ever, didn’t hurt one bit and it wasn’t as cringy as I thought it would be. So far no side effects. I came off of Hydroxycarbamide after my skin came out in lumps and bumps, including my corneas.

Well done! The injections aren't as bad as what you think are they? I did my sixth injection on Wed's and was at hospital today. It looks as though the peg interferon is beginning to kick in. Good luck with yours ☺

That’s great news, that’s my next slight concern that it actually works. I was on 1000 mg daily of Hydroxy and it was slow to work. I wish you all the best. Raff

Hope it works well for you - I’ve been on Pegasys for ET for 3 years and it’s worked really well for me with minimal side effects.

I now just use a maintenance dose of 45mcg every 4 weeks to keep my counts stable.

That sounds like it works well.

Well done. I still find it weird to stick needles into myself. I take a deep breath every time and tell myself to get on with it. I find the needle that comes with Pegasys hurts me every time. Not certain why. Tried decanting it to another syringe but usually too ham-fisted for that, wasting more than goes in. When I do manage it I feel nothing due to the finer needle.

My experience of the drug has been very positive. Within three weeks my platelets were within normal range. Only been using it since June this year, so I'm really pleased. My weekly 45 mcg has been reduced to every 10 days, due to the white and red getting a little low. I just did my 3rd. using the 10 day dosage. Dec. 12th. is my next visit so let's see what's happening to my blood by then.

I hope your experience is as successful as my own. All the best. x

Hi Raphael! I will also do the transition from HU to Pegasys, only that my doc want to start at 135 mcg/week which terrifies me. How are you feeling now?
