polycythemia what foods or supplements should we Avoid ?
Eat a healthy, balanced diet. Drink plenty of water. Do not take supplements until you have talked to your haem. There isn’t an ‘MPN diet’. Some people find following a ‘low inflammatory’ diet of the kind promoted on respected cancer support websites useful. But this all boils down (well probably, lightly steams down to!) eat sensibly! Lots of veg, limit red meat, cut right back on sugary stuff, cut out salt. Eat regular meals. The things we all know we should be doing! Enjoy!
Soy is not good for you because it mimics oestrogen and can lead to oestrogen dependent cancers (not unless it's fermented but that's not in normal milk products etc). As Ebot has stated variety and moderation is the key. I do believe in salt but not iodised table salt as this is not good for you. A pink Himalayan salt is good as it has loads of essential minerals, iodine and far less sodium (which is the baddy).
Supplements need to be researched and the right formula to be absorbed. Cheaper supermarket ones are usually rancid, low quality ingredients that cannot be absorbed by the body, they also need to be the right "form" of the supplement as some are made with dangerous forms that can be toxic.
