Hi people. I found a post about bleeding gums but can't find it now. Could anyone help please. When I cleaned my teeth yesterday there was quite a lot of blood after spitting out toothpaste. I use Corsodil toothpaste and do have gum disease but this is the first time this has happened. All replies appreciated. Thank you. Mary

I suffer from this too! No advice, I’m afraid
Hi Mary,
I get this too I’m afraid. Some weeks nothing at all, some weeks lots of bright red blood. I told my dentist about it and about my diagnosis and she instantly recognised this as a symptom of ET and told me not to worry and now she just gives my gums an extra check at my visits. I use my electric toothbrush in the morning and a soft bristle in the evening and use corsodil mouthwash when it get bad.
That seems to do the trick for me.

I get this. My Dentist also said it would be a symptom of ET. I don’t really understand why as I presumed low counts were responsible for easy bleeding with blood cancers, rather than (in my case) slightly raised counts. Keep meaning to ask my haematologist about it.
Hi, It might have been me. after 62 years If gum disease I can now so I have it no longer. You need a really good dental hygienist. I’ve actually just phoned my private practise on your behalf. The practise are going to send me details of what qualifications my hygienist has.
After 3 months of a rigerous cleaning regime my gums are the best they’ve ever been. I’m in no doubt that it has prepared me should bleeding gums become an issue.
Also, google ‘blue m’ products.
Hi garden
this is an ET symptom which you can get with a raised platelet count.
Could try a softer toothbrush
all the best

Are you on hydroxy? I had the same problem despite 6 monthly dental checks. I was told that because I was on hydroxy, my immune system was lowered, this allowed infections to occur in my gums which made them bleed. Hydroxy can affect hair and teeth and in my case my gums were receding allowing pockets of bacteria to live under the gum line. I had 3 weekly visits to the dentist who cleaned under my gum line (needed numbing up because it was not pleasant) and the difference has been amazing. I have also invested in a water pic which has made all the difference to my teeth. It is amazing that, even though I brush my teeth twice a day, I can use the water pic and see the tiny particles of food that my tooth brush has missed. Can't recommend it enough. My gums no longer bleed and my teeth and gums feel amazing. I really want to keep my teeth all my life and I am working hard to do this, despite the battle with the Hydroxy.
Hi. I have ET jac+. I had mouth ulcers. Used an aloe toothpaste. No more ulcers or sore mouth. My dentist was happy with the results. She recommended it to another patient on chemo. Similar good results. I use the Forever Living product. Morning and evening. Just a pea size amount so it lasts for ages. Use a soft brush electric toothbrush. Worth a try? Jb.
