I just wondered if anyone knows how long bone marrow biopsy results take? I had my BMB on 24th of July, and my results appointment is 20th September.

Hi there :) I had my BMB on 12th July and my results appointment is 20th August - 5 and a half weeks. I was told it would normally be about 3 weeks (2 weeks for the results, 1 week for the team to discuss them and decide diagnosis) but this is delayed due to staff on summer vacations. Fingers crossed!

Thanks Jen. Eight weeks seems a long time, I just want to know my diagnosis! I've always been impatient! X

Hi, I've had 4 and always had the results the following week but he flags them as urgent and sometimes just has the preliminary results with more details to follow. Good luck, Frances.

Hi Sarah Jane,

If it’s any consolation...my bone marrow biopsy was on 18th July and I was told I have to wait until my next clinic appointment in November for the results. Depends on individual cases I guess?

I have emailed my consultant with some questions and she will try and bring my appointment forward to within the next month. So all good. I wish you the best of luck with your results 🙂

Thank you so much. I phoned my heamotology unit yesterday, and asked if I could have an earlier appointment. Later that day, I got a lovely voicemail from one of the nurses, explaining that results can take around 8 weeks to come, then be assessed by the consultant. So my September appointment still stands. But she said that if they need to contact me to bring my appointment forward, they will do. My own thinking is that they will tell me that I am low risk ET, and to continue with aspirin and maybe start on something to bring my platelet level down. But we will see! Thanks again, hopen all is good with you too. Wishing you continued good health.

In the London Hospital I attend it has only ever taken 2 weeks to get the result. I booked the follow up/results while booking the BMB appointment.
