A lot of people are fasting now and have reaped many benefits. I am adrenal deficient. Could fasting be harmful or helpful.

The jury is really out on whether fasting is beneficial or detrimental. The only thing that practitioners tend to agree about is that fasting will not help anyone lose weight! The other thing they appear to concur about is that any fasting must be under medical supervision and as part of a long term healthy eating plan. Healthy eating seems to be the by word. And it’s a definitely a theme here on this Forum 🙂. I would be quite worried about the effects of fasting on overall fluid intake for anyone with an MPN. For this reason - and the fact I feel gross and end up with a migraine if I don’t eat regularly - I never set out to fast. A healthy and balanced diet ...... well that is worth striving for! It’s worth checking with your doctor, haematologist and specialists whether or not they think fasting in any form would be beneficial for you given your health challenges. Or whether it might make your condition(s) worse. A session with a hospital dietician or nutritionist might be helpful.

Just to be clear fasting doesn’t restrict water intake. Water will not produce a glycemic response. So you can drink as much water as you like.

Yes, I understand that on many ‘health fasts’ people are allowed to drink water. However some religious fasts also require participants to abstain from allowing anything to pass their lips including drinking water.

I guess it depends on what you mean by fasting I’ve followed an intermittent fasting plan where I eat for eight hours and fast mostly whilst I sleep for 16. The main benefit I experienced was weight lose. Best of luck.

Hello,

there are a lot of research done and facts published regarding the benefit of fasting. I think the best is to read up about it and then contact your doctor. The dietisians are sadly, till this very day, recommending diabetics to eat a lot of carbs.,and other food thet really is not for them, so I think there is an update to be done there. What we do know is that fasting has helped a lot of people to lose a lot of weight and even reverse some diseases,like diabetestype 2. You will find a lot of information online but as a starter try this one: dietdoctor.com and continue from there.If you dont mind, let us know what your doctor says about the whole thing.
