I’ve been on a ketogenic diet for years. Recent yearly blood tests with my GP who is pro low-Carb diets showed my inflammation levels at less than 1. Less than 5 is considered good, so she was very pleased. However, my platelets have risen yet again? So I’m not sure if a low inflammation level really helps? Or maybe the levels would have risen even more???

Hey Dee... :-)

Thanks for your response... Yes, it can often be a tad tricky trying to work it all out, can it not?

I am 60 yo, Post ET/MF, CALR+ Type2 w/ extremely an high platelet regime currently languishing in the 900s... :-\

However, they were higher long before I started my Low Carb / Ketogenic dietary regime, (1.7M at DX).

While it might be true that Ant-Inflammatory & Ketogenic Diets, along w/ Intermittent Fasting, might aid our overall longevity, I am uncertain that doing so will cure us of our MPNs... (?) And I am not making any such claims of course... Improving my own Quality of Life (QoL), is more the aim of my own personal efforts.

However, and that said, my first BMB showed a Grade2 Level of bone marrow scarring, and circa one year after changing my diet to a mix of anti–inflammatory /Ketogenic/ Intermittent Fasting... My last BMB showed a slight but significant molecular reversal, resulting in a reduction in Bone Marrow Fibrosis from Grade2 down to Grade1... YAY!!! :-)

Hence, it might be possible to stymie the progress through such methodology?

Personally, I am of the view that my diet, and my cycling exercise regime are the suspects of said improvements...

I might be mistaken, however that is not my belief at this juncture...

Best wishes :-)

Hi Steve, I couldn't open the content but have been doing Time Restricted Eating for the last 4 months or so, primarily to lower white cells and make (hopefully) stronger new white cells which in turn should improve my immune system. So I generally fast overnight for around 14 hours leaving 10 to eat in, to be honest I haven't altered my eating habits because my diet is pretty good and if I try to restrict it then I give up! So this has worked well for me, white cell count dropped from 41 to 26, but overall I've felt so much better, more energy and generally more robust. I feel it's right because in all the 4 months I haven't broken it and it sits nicely with my lifestyle. I've lost about 6 pounds too which is a bonus. So I don't know all the technical reasons why it works for me but it does seem to.

Take care Steve and I hope the sun comes back to shine on lovely Sydney soon! Christine

Hey Christine... :-)

Yes, they do say that the best diet is the one that you can stick to... ;-)

Sounds as if it is working very nicely for you too...

The PDF article link, which is a tad harder to read between the lines is here for you:

cell.com/action/showPdf?pii...

Hopefully, that link will work okay but do let me know if you are still having any trouble accessing it...

Best wishes

Thanks Steve, I'll give it a go!

Thanks again, although it's long winded, I think it kind of suggests intermittent fasting could be a good idea, so I'm going to continue for as long as it feels right!

Kind regards, Christine

What foods do you eat on a fasting diet ?

So tempted to have a little fun here and say... Nothing... ;-)

Just kidding of course. ;-0)

There are all kinds of foods that one can eat, but as others have commented, whatever they are, and whatever diet one might ultimately choose, it is only a good diet if you can stick to it!

Essentially, I try to have an anti-inflammatory diet that consists of: No added sugars in anything; no alcohol; no soft drinks; no processed foods; a plant-based diet of vegetables & fruits; salads, no red meats; sparkling mineral water; loads of wild-caught seafood, (where possible); and to try to keep the Carbs down to an absolute minimum...

Fasting, is NOT starving oneself. Fasting in my case is a daily intermittent regime where I only actually consume food between 4-8pm. No breakfast or lunch most days of the week...

Everyone is a tad different, and it is really about finding something beneficial that works for you...

Hope this helps a little...

Best wishes, and please forgive me for my humorous prank above... ;-)

Best wishes

Steve
