From Pegasys to Hydrea (Hydroxyurea- Hydroxycarbamide)

Hi !!

I would love to hear from someone who has gone from using Pagasys --and to using Hydrea tablets. The side effects of Pegasys seem to be getting worse and worse.

Could someone please tell me a little about how the Hydrea works on the body. Of course, I know that it differs slightly from person to person, but still.

I would be very thankful, cause if I don't have anything to "lean on" I could end up making up side effects/ body reactions ;)

Thanks a lot---- greetings yarrowleaf

Hi yarrowleaf, what are your side effects you are having with Pegasys? I think you said on a different post you have been using it for 3 years? I went from Hydrea to Peg as I had an allergic reaction to Hydrea. However, most people on this forum tolerate Hydrea very well with no or little side effects. I am suspecting that after almost a year on Pegasys it is now overstimulating my immune system and causing inflammation. Am planning on seeing dr this week.

Hi Yvettenaude :)

I will go the other way from Pegasys to Hydrea.

And yes, Pegasys also overstimulate my immune system. I get strange wounds and absesses and react abnormally to heat. In fact I can't eat hot food or drink anything hot--neither wash my hair/face i hot water.

I have horrible nightmares, fears and depressions, muscle/joint pains, headaches and panic attacks and my digestion is ruined.

So-- doesn't seem that Pegasys is my thing i the long run. I will not judge Pegasys-- it's just me and Pegasys who have a bad marriage--lol

Do you know others who react allergic to Hydrea ? You made me a little nervous, because I've been hyper allergic since 1983 when I had an accident while injecting pigs.

Sometimes I would like to drop the medicine and see if I could survive on Asperin and blood letting. (what I did for more than 10 years) But I guess it would make me unpopular among the docs. !!

Hi, if your dr prescribes Hydrea then do give it a try. According to my dr I had a very rare reaction to it. My colleague is on Hydrea for longer than 10 years and is doing well, no side effects. I am currently experiencing many of the symptoms you described while on Pegasys so I guess this union too is going to end in divorce! Thanks for your reply.

You are welcome-- and "good wind" with the Pegasys. I'll give Hydrea a try. It will be exciting :) Have a nice evening.
