I am waiting to see a haematologist to confirm suspected PV. My son aged 18 is currently in hospital with a blocked bowel & is on a drip. They have given him anticoagulant injections as his red blood cell count is high & I am wondering if he has PV too? A previous blood test showed raised Red cell count too. Has any one experienced having these injections having PV?

Yes have had what sound like the same injections when I had PV, sounds like not dissimilar situation to your son, mine linked around gall stone infection and bowel obstruction.
As you probably know, PV is not hereditary, but a mutation that arises during the course of your life, so presumably no reason to think your son has PV because you do.
Hi, thankyou for your reply. Me, My son & daughter are being investigated for familial PV which apparantly is hereditry. They took 9 attempts to put his canular in yesterday & said it was probably the pv being a problem. All confusing to me! X
Praying for your son and you. God is the best healer there is and may He shower healing blessings on you both.

Hi Vicky, sorry to hear about your son. I hope they get to the root cause of this issue, so young! Although not unheard of young males having PV. I am unsure of your exact question, but if you are referring to having anticoagulant with PV, of course there are many anticogulants and I would hazard a guess that they are using this because of his current situation. We all use something to prevent clots. Let me know if I can help further but otherwise wishing your son a speedy recovery and lots of healing energy xxx
