I'm definitely not recommending it, but did anyone get carried away with Christmas or New Years Celebration and get a bit wasted? Since I was diagnosed with ET/MPL March 2016, I havent really had much to drink, maybe a glass of wine with a meal, that's all. But New year I got a bit carried away and had quite a lot to drink, wow, was I ill, I shan't be doing that again in a hurry. What is the official line on drinking alcohol?

Likewise I had about a bottle and a half of wine over a long NYD lunch but aside from worse leg cramps than usual (I tried to stay hydrated) I survived with only mild hangover. I’m still on aspirin and venesections (have PV).
I reckon I normally drink about 25 - 30 units per week but go to obsessive extremes to counteract this one vice. Very healthy anti inflammatory diet loaded with every antioxidant you can name. Drink only red wine and slowly with food. Keep well hydrated and finish with camomile tea. Take Milk Thistle just in case it works.
Have three monthly blood test (I’ve mentioned Thriva here before - prick finger, squeeze a few drops into small tube and post. Get surprisingly accurate results for all liver functions, cholesterol, iron and Vit D on internet within a couple of days).
Incidentally, the only time I’ve felt ‘fatigued’ was when my Vit D level was very low, now taking supplements.
Do you think your reaction was result of being on HU? Is it possible to say how many units prompted this reaction? I’m contemplating starting PEG and now reasonably relaxed that should allow me to continue drinking in moderation and without affecting taste. However not sure whether NYD will be repeatable!
Hi. I’m interested in yr anti inflammatory diet u mention. Could u say a little more please. I have had pv for a year and have venesection every 3 months (extending to 4/5) and aspirin daily. I have changed my diet to Mediterranean and very little meat etc.
Have read USA research re anti inflammatory diet but no actual guidance. What do you eat.

If you google search anti inflammatory foods you get a good list to start with - fruit, veg, oily fish, complex carbs etc. I throw in (small amount) dark chocolate, flax seeds, green and camomile tea as well.
Try to keep Omega 3 > Omega 6. This means avoiding processed food and pretty much every oil except olive and coconut.
So effectively the Med Diet (lots of tomatoes) but wholemeal pasta, homemade bread (don’t want fortified) and brown rice.
Would love to take turmeric (seen yesterday’s papers?) but a blood thinner too many on top of aspirin
Hi. Ok thanks for this that, so I’m pretty much doing that. I take it slightly further and don’t eat processed foods hardly and maintain low carb diet and have fish. I also try to keep to organic and grass fed etc. Stick to whole meal. I also take a probiotic drink called kefir to help with the gut. Which is high in vitamin D (can’t b taken with warfarin tho)
I start my day with ginger in hot water and have in last 2 month started grating in a little turmeric too. I agree with u on the vitamin D3 too. Makes a big different to mood too.

Good god! I should imagine anyone would feel vile the following morning whether they have an mpn or not after that lot!
Personally I gave up alcohol of any sort when I was diagnosed in 2009, along with caffeine and all processed / ready made foods.
Do I feel better for it? Well I am really really well with no fatigue (touch wood) but might have been anyway so who knows?
However, not prepared to go back to the old ways so I'll never know.
Well it sounds as if you enjoyed yourself 🍺🍹🥂🍾🍻🍷🥃 but don’t feel bad, it would be a very sad place if you could not celebrate Christmas and the New Year without something to drink.
