Hi I had a total knee replacement three years ago, all went well, they put flotation boots on me to stop blood clots, once removed I had surgical stockings for six weeks, also had to inject heparin into my tummy to keep blood thin. For ten days afterwards. Before I had the op I came off my Hydroxy and Asprin for a week, they monitored my bloods then reintroduced a couple of days afterwards, considering the blood loss my levels were all OK.
I know it is not quite the same as a hip, but you should be more mobile afterwards providing you do all the exercises that the physiotherapist give you should be fine, this also helps with blood flow.
I have ET JAK 2 positive, but providing you tell your surgeon everything to do with your PV they should cross reference everything with your Haematologist and address the situation. The main thing is to do the exercises, flexing your feet as if you are on a long haul flight is good while your recovering, even now when I sit down I make sure I move my feet back and forth.
So go for it, getting a new knee made one hell of a difference to me, need the other one done, but with all the cut backs I have got a long wait.
Merry Christmas
Jean

Hi James, I have PV and had a knee replacement last year. No problems with blood. Counts were checked well before and on day of surgery. I also had the boots on in theatre to keep circulation going and jabs afterwards, followed by tablets for 3 weeks post op. I had the fancy stockings of course but stuck them for a week, as I was scratching my legs due to the horrendous itch.
I expect I’ll need a hip replacement this year or very soon. Good luck with yours but I’m sure you’ll be fine.
Kindest regards Aime xx😺😺
