Annoying platlets

My last two visits to the Haem have seen my platlets dropping slightly from a high of just over a 1000 down to 863 at my last visit but yesterday and to my surprise they jumped up to 1083. I’m just wondering I had a bmb a week prior to my lastest test could this have affected my platlet count?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Jason,

I can't answer your question - other than what my specialist nurse tells me when I question any slight variations. She says that there will always be some variation - but also things like viruses can increase counts. Not sure about the effect of a bmb on platelet count though, maybe someone else can answer this?

I think stress can make your counts go up. Maybe you where a little worried about your bmb and it effected your counts. They do go up and down. Try not to worry.

This group is really good at putting your mind at ease.

Likewise not sure re BMB but yes platelet counte go up and down even in 'normal" people!! It is frustrating abd upseting when you tet a bigher count again but dont worry it is all part and parcel of MPN life and you see will see on here lots of posts of us when we get good or not so good readings. Beet llace for suppoet and to know its normal for us MPNers

My platelets started off pretty close to the 2000 mark, but were gradually coming down and down until they got to 1100 - suddenly they shot back up to 1415 for no apparent reason, but when I thought about it I had been working over the previous weekend with an extremely arrogant, rude and generally all-round nasty person so felt as though I was tip-toeing through glass and eggshells for 2 days. Husband laughed when I suggested this might have been the cause of the sudden rise, but I am semi-convinced. Will be working with this same person again in a few weeks so will be interested to see what (if anything) happens this time. Platelets have been dropping again since and now down to 1130.

Glad to hear your platlets are coming down. I was probably quite stressed about it beforehand and during and it was also very painful for me initially, it’s still bruised and tender 10 days later. Hopefully this horrible person won’t be so nasty next time. All the best.

Unfortunately this person has a well deserved reputation for extreme crankiness with almost everyone he comes into contact with but I tell myself it's HIS problem, not mine.
