I thought I would ask if anyone else has had a similar problem: I have had a blocked vein in my left eye which has badly affected the sight in it. I am reassured it is not a tumour but sad that the only thing I can do is wait to see if the sight improves.
I do not think I can do anything to prevent another one. My platelets are 509 currently. Sallie

About 4 years ago I lost sight in one eye for about 10 mins. This would occasionally happen with differing amounts of blindness each time. I have a heart valve replacement and my consultant told me this was called Amaurosis Fugax and put me on .75mg of aspirin.
Fast forward to May 2017 and I was diagnosed with ET CALR+ with a platelet count of 1250. The MPN consultant said the Amaurosis Fugax was probably related to high platelet count than anything to do with my heart.
The way it was explained to me is that the capiliaries in the eye are some of the smallest and a tiny blood clot can cause temporary blindness in one eye.
I don't know if a vessel was blocked but I had a retinal bleed a few months ago. It has left me with some visual distortion in that eye which I am just getting used to. My platelets are very low +/- 50. I was hospitalised for a nosebleed last weekend. I feel so much at the mercy of my body right now! Still, I am going to my granddaughter's second birthday party today so all is well with my world!
I am not sure which MPN condition it is that you have? I started out being diagnosed w/ ET that later became re-diagnosed as MF (just over a year ago now) - My first MPN anniversary...
I have continually had problems with my left eye and it does seem to become more exacerbated when my Platelets are at higher levels such as they are right now. It is usually kind of a scratchy type of irritation that I can never rid myself of entirely.
Thus far, however, no-one has given me any sort of explanation for what is going on w/ my left eye in particular...
...However again, this might be entirely something different from that which you are experiencing... I really have no way of knowing.
I am sorry that I cannot be of more help, and I do hope that your sight and your eye might improve very soon...
Thank you very much, everyone. The eye consultant I have seen seems fairly sure it is related to my condition, ET. He says the MRI scan will confirm the diagnosis.
My sight has improved in that eyes since it happened so guess that, if that's all I have to worry about, I'm lucky. However, am worried that it might happen again and I cannot see what I can do to prevent it or lessen the chances of it.
I have e-mailed my haem to suggest I increase my HU from 1,000 mg X5 days and 500 mg X2 to 1,000 X7 until the platelets are a bit lower. Am awaiting her reply now.Sallie
