Hello, I cannot stress enough ( wish I knew this two years ago)

If when you look at straight lines, whether it’s a window frame or a picture, if you are seeing little nicks ( distorted) in the lines please please go to an optician. This happened to me two years ago, I was looking at these distortions and thinking, how interesting, and didn’t do anything about it for a couple of months, eventually I thought I had better get it checked out. I was sent from my optician to an eye clinic at the hospital, and had an operation in the next week. Sorry cannot remember the correct name for this, but basically I had a hole in the gel at the back of the eye. I still have sight in this eye, but the hole couldn’t be completely healed as I had left it too long, too much damage, if I close my good eye I have a blind area in my bad eye. 😟

Some people do best when the are followed regularly by an ophthalmologist- medical physicians trained to properly diagnose, treat and prevent eye problems

Yes, but with me at he time, I wasn’t due an eye test for a while, so was good that I eventually went for an early appointment.

Eyes and other part of the body can change very quickly. My husband had a bit of a high eye pressure. Was scheduled for a check up at the 6month Point. In the meantime, he got a lot of damage to the eye, bad enough that the laser treatments no longer work and he’ll have to use drops life long. When we notice something isn’t right, we should go to the doctor and not wait for scheduled appointments.

I fell backwards off the low roundabout in the park, and being an idiot got on and fell off again! It wasn’t fast or far to fall, and I landed on woodchips, but I did bump the back of my head, twice!

A few days later I started getting odd flashes of light in my left eye but no loss of vision, and phoned my opticians. I was seen within a few hours, I gather that it is the NHS emergency centre for sudden eye problems. I had an examination and a detailed retinal scan done, and visual fields lights test a few days later.

The retina was fine, but I was told it was different densities in the gel tugging at the retina causing flashes.

A few days later I floater appeared, like a small fly which wouldn’t be swatted away. I was given another examination and retinal scan. The flashes of light then stopped.

It makes one aware of how vulnerable we are to eye damage.

I have put an Amsler Grid in favourites on my iPad so I can check if there are any gaps or distorted areas in my vision daily.
