Hi the only guidence that i have had from heam is no more than 2 litres of water because of depletion in minerals and salts , as for red wine i choose not to drink it now , i find it doesnt agree with me . but in all honesty i get more advise on this site i try to eat lots veg im not great fruit eater but i try i also need plenty of rest and sleep too which helps all the best Holly
Hi, sorry can't help much as red or white wine or any alcohol seems to disagree with me now. I have given up drinking any alcohol as even after one glass I feel I have a bad hangover. I have PV so blaming it!!xx Aime 😺😺
Hi cawayman, I have ET and take Hydroxycarbamide, and numerous other tablets, I asked my Haematologist about this as I enjoy white and red wine more so white oh!!! and Procceco or champagne, he told me in moderation it is fine a little of what you enjoy will not do any harm as long as you drink plenty of water to keep the body well hydrated and of course eating a good balanced diet, I must admit that I do not drink as much anymore as I do not like how I feel the next day, must be my age haha 👵
He did say, not to go over 2ltrs of water a day as you basically will pee it out and so do all the minerals in your body one of them salt or potassium which is is not good, just as Holly says.
Enjoy your red wine, they now say that moderate drinkers have more heart protection, or so the papers have said this week.

Hi
I think, as Jean says a little of what you fancy is good as well being is also important. I was diagnosed with PV 15 months ago. I enjoy a glass of red wine and have not changed my habits. I only have alcohol at the weekend when at home. I have recently returned from an all inclusive holiday in Morocco and I enjoyed a little tipple each evening but did not over indulge. I was tired in the evening and ready to get into my jim jams by about 9.30pm. I drank lots of water as usual. I have not heard about limiting water before. I certainly often drink more than 2L and on my 8 weekly visit to the hospital which so far has always necessitated a venesection, I have several glasses at home, more than 2L in the car on my way there and drink constantly while waiting in the hospital. I will speak to the specialist nurse on my next visit.
I had also been told by one of the nurses not to exceed 2 ltrs of water a day because of losing valuable nutrients so in the end what one thinks is doing us good is actually, possibly harming.
We cant see the minerals and salts disappearing - so glad Holly brought this message up.

Hi cwayman11, we recommend reducing alcohol intake and staying hydrated, and to stay within the recommended levels of no more than 14 units of alcohol per week, this information may help nhs.uk/Livewell/alcohol/Pag...
Best wishes, Maz
Just out of curiosity, why is staying hydrated more important when you have a MPN? I always drink lots of water anyway, but wondered why it's more important than if you don;'t have PV or ET.
My understanding is if you are dehydrated your blood is thicker so makes our situation worse.
