I've just come down with a rotten cold (from the grandchildren) and have been trying to find anything that says cold medication is okay/not okay with hydroxy. Has anyone any input on taking over the counter cold medication with HU?

Hello Jean, you will need to ask a pharmacist to check for you, also tell them if you are taking aspirin, and any other medication, they can then advise what over the counter cough mixture you can take. Hope you feel better soon. Maz
Thanks Maz, I will check with pharmacist - I actually hadn't thought of the pharmacist - but yes that's a good route.
Hi Jean probably best to check with chemist. You don't say if you are on aspirin as well. If you are I was told to avoid any over counter meds with aspirin or Ibruprofen in and stick to paracetamol based things. But I always check with my chemist who is a very helpful chap ands knows what needs I am on.
Anyway good luck, hope you feel better soon Jean. Remember to keep your fluids up and rest. Take Care Lizxx
Thanks Liz for the reply, I will check with pharmacy -- for some reason I had blanked out about the pharmacy - I was thinking the dr was the only route but the pharmacist is good-- thanks for the good wishes also and replying, Jean
Before taking any additional mess or supplement I run everything I take through Medscape drug interaction checker reference.medscape.com/drug.... I have averted one or two potential catastrophes by always checking this myself. It is a very useful tool. phenylephedrine and caffeine and paracetamol are the most common ingredients in OTC cold and flu meds. Hope this is useful info for you
