Dry hands
Neutrogena norwegian formula hand cream will do the trick even worked for my aunt who was a florist and had hands constantly in water before this her hands would literally crack open so it does work
Yes, and wear rubber gloves ALWAYS for washing up, washing clothes, cleaning the bathroom etc...I suffer painful cracked skin wounds on my thumbs if I don't, only a winter problem. I think skin of PV sufferers is very delicate, any wounds I have take ages to heal, so prevention is better.
also might be good to wear cotton gloves with neotrogna underneath aat night to moisturise them as you sleep too especially when you got the problem
Agree with above Chelle,Argan Oil is good too.Mine have had a lifetime of all weathers on our UK stud farm plus my sculpture work, wet clay ,stone ,bronze,I hide them when with manicured friends,PV has certainly made my skin very sensitive, face too.Good Luck with all suggestions.
Used to use Neutrogena (bit greasy) and then Doublebase but with the tablets undoubtedly affecting my skin, I've found Avon's 'glycerine hand & nail' is brilliant - but we're all different......
Neutrogena is only grealsy if your hands aren't really dry kevin and if put on with gloves at night then in the morning when you shower there should be no excess grease depends how dry your hands are and normal hand cream like avon as you suggested is also really good for using several times a day to keep hands hydrated once not to dry xx see the beautician in me talking xx
Hi Kevin - me too. They laugh at me at work (where our Avon lady is), because when the Gylcerine, Hand & Nail cream is on offer I buy about 30 tubes at a time and stash them all under my bed in a carrier bag lol. I have tubes everywhere, in handbags, on my desk, kitchen, bathroom and one by my bed and every night before I go to bed I cover my feet and hands
Body Shop Hemp hand cream is awesome. Some beauticians do a lovely paraffin wax treatment which I am going to indulge in this winter.
Hi Chelle,
For those painful splits in the skin on finger tips that take ages to heal and open like little mouths when you use your fingers, I found that filing gently with an emery board gets rid of the ridges. Plastic dressing spray covers them so they can heal. Vaseline or neutrogena cream and cotton gloves overnight helps deep moisturising your hands.
Gloves when you are out in the cold, rubber gloves for wet work.
Fish oil capsules to improve your skin from the inside.
I hope this helps,
Best wishes, Borage
Hi, been told that Aveeno cream is absolutely brilliant for hands, I believe available from a pharmacy. Wish you the best. Tinkerbell 13
Hi, for painful hacks on fingers I find germaline, covered by plasters overnight works good. Sore small but so sore!! Kind regards Aime
Hi chelle what has worked for you sweet x
Yes, I have dry cracked hands in the winter. It only appears on the back of my hands and finger joints. The skin dries and cracks with open wounds. My hands only see water when I wash them, so not in water all day. I find it strange as my hands see water in the summer, possibly more so but never get the problem then. I tend to use E45 as I suffer with allergies - runny nose and eyes if anything has the remotest sort of smell. Never really thought of it as a PV problem. On a slightly different note my hands hurt like mad (pain as as bad as cramp) when the weather is cold. They even hurt in the winter if I put them under cold water from the tap. I don't have any arthritis or rheumatism. Doctor gave me some pills to try, thought it may be Reynards, he said they work for some but not others. Made no difference to to me, guess I should go back.
Do your hands change colour in cold weather or when you experience a change in temperature?
There's no real noticeable change in color. If I look closely the main part of my fingers are a bit paler and the tips of my fingers a bit redder, but on general observation you would tell.
Hey Chelle and everyone else.. I love these tips and without preaching, please let me introduce you to some alternatives, as many of what you have mentioned above, contain nasty chemicals and indeed if we use things that contain mineral oil we are just blocking pores and basically putting a petrolchemical byproduct on your skin and into your blood stream, that from my time in the oil and gas industry is not really fit to be sold cheaply to cosmetics companies but alas there that is where it ends up, sad, shocking but true. We already have enough issues to deal with and I know we could say well we already have blood cancer so what does it matter, but I believe it does.. we are surrounded by toxins and chemicals but we can reduce our toxic overload.
I am developing a new website that will be a "go to" for people looking for advice for all sorts of health and wellness related topics so I will let you know when this is complete and would love input from other patients.. however, for now please contact me for more information on a brand that I love so much that I now represent them, and before you think cynically that I am just trying to sell to people, this could not be further from the truth, I believe in serving and helping others, whether that be with massage therapy, nutritional advice, skincare consultations and advice on particular issues.
I suffer with PV, diagnosed in 2009, so I do understand many issues, and if I haven't personally dealt with it, I will still be able to help from my knowledge and have some great testimonials from people, some fellow PV suffers that have used products that have helped.
