My gym states that you should not use a Power Plate if you have had treatment for cancer in the past 2 years. I haven't asked why not as I don't want to use them but I could do if it is helpful. I have used my local sports centre for years to keep as fit and mobile as possible, swimming is my favourite exercise. I have ET.

Hello Ourlife, I have asked Prof Harrison for you and she has said that you should discuss with your doctor but if well and no complications and keeps hydrated yes probably. So it would be best if you ask your doctor and also to ask the gym for more information on why you can't use the power plate if you have had cancer or acute thrombosis. Maz

Looked on the web site for Power Plate. Simple answer is there is no information on whether or not it is safe so the manufacturers have put a block on all people with cancer to prevent them having any liability. If it improves blood flow as they claim then it should reduce thrombosis risk. There is a risk of muscle tears and bleeding from the general fragility that comes with cancer. Suspect its like most things , do it at your own risk. I have MF and my last platelet count was 46 but didn't stop me going walking last weekend but I used my poles for balance on the tricky bits.

I asked in the gym this morning and was told that Power Plate say that the vibrations could dislodge cancer cells and spread them round the body. As this would not be a problem with our condition it would seem to be up to you.

Power Plate advises all users to first seek medical advice from a licensed physician before starting any new exercise program. The conditioned you described most definitely warrants your seeking medical advice and training under and medical fitness provider as your local gym will not offer the special considerations you will need. Power Plate has been used worldwide to supplement and enhance medical rehabilitation with great success. To ensure your safety, we advise that you should seek physician advice before using Power Plate and beginning a fitness and wellness program.

I have ET with fatigue. I treated myself to a power plate last year, as I couldn't motivate myself to exercise using traditional methods. I generally use the plate for 10 minutes once a day, 3 or 4 times a week. I have not had any ill effects so far and it has helped with weight loss.
