Hi, has anyone tried a Tens machine for migraine.

Hi Alison
Not tried it for migraine but have tried one with some success for chronic pain in shoulder. I also get facial pain & migraine so tried TENS with the electrode placed right over the temple (which is where the pain gets bad and where I also get the migraine headache) - this was on medical advice to place it there, but it made the pain much worse. Interestingly though, i have some botox there (as well as in other places) & it really helps the migraine headache.
I wouldn't rule out trying TENs though. It took a bit of experimenting to find the right place. I only gave up on it because it took ages to position it on my shoulder - much easier & quicker to get on the head because you can see what you're doing.
Good luck. Sometimes anything is worth trying.
Thanks for your reply teadrinker, I am thinking of trying Botox again to see if it will help.

It took a few rounds of botox to get it right. I think I must be lucky to get repeated treatments - I have heard of some migraine sufferers not getting a second lot of injections if the first lot don't help. The doctor who does mine is very good and willing to inject bits of my neck and head that I think might be causing problems, and she has lots of diagrams to back this up.
I think the botox is just one thing - though a very effective thing - of several that manages the migraines. It has meant needing far less medication, and bigger gaps between attacks.
It hasn't stopped the flashing lights - still get them every day - and as I also suffer from migraine without headache I still have just as many days when everything is weird / dizzy / disjointed, but at least there's no thumping head to contend with.
