I've been fortunate to be given Aimovig to try, does anyone know if you continue with your preventative tablets, i.e amitriptyline and propanolol or come off them altogether? Thanks
Aimovig: I've been fortunate to be... - National Migraine...
Aimovig
I continued on everything but it probably depends a bit what you are on.
Thanks for your reply, I will check with the doctor
If you are on the CGRP's just watch out for gastrointestinal issues so don't go crazy on fibre or change your diet while you are getting used to it.
Hi I'm on Aimovig. My neurologist told me to stop everything else. Don't be put off by the constipation. It was a problem in the first month or so but I've been on it since February and it's not now a problem at all. Hair loss is an issue for me but I have a lot of hair so I'm not yet bothered by it. I've had a 50% improvement which has at least given me back a bit of life. Hope it works for you
I think you need to get advice from your doctor. I came off all other drugs but soon went back on some of them. I dropped one of them completely (candesartan I think). However, I stopped HRT which i had been on for years to combat chronic migraines, and found that i was getting quite bad menopause symptoms. So went back on it. I also came off Amitriptyline which i had been taking for years, but my doctor suggested this might be the cause of the daily neck ache i was experiencing. So i went back on it but in much smaller doses, just 20mg as opposed to 50mg a day.
really hope Aimovig works for you and reduces the number of migraines you get. If it doesn’t then it’s worth pursuing another CGRP medication which may work better. Best of luck.
