I did my first Ajovy jab on Saturday. I’ve tried Aimovig for 6 months but not terribly successfully. Has anyone found Ajovy to be better for them for chronic migraine? The jab itself was much more painful than Aimovig and has left a huge bruise and I’ve been in migraine ever since I did it-had anyone else experienced this please?

I was on Ajovy for 2 years, worked well for the for the first year. Had a longer gap after the first year than I should have had because the pharmacy couldn't get it. The second time it never really worked. Interesting you found it more painful, I found it really painful, others on Aimovig didnt know what I was talking about!

Im going on Galcanezumab on Wednesday so fingers crossed!

I too have tried both ajovy and aimovig. Unfortunately both did not help reduce my migraines. They both were very similar for me. I hope you find ajovy works for you.

I loved Aimovig and had great success with it. My ins required I switch to something else. I use Ajovy now. The injector is definitely more painful and must be held longer. I sometimes end up with a welt around the injection site. But it is working. I don’t believe I have any more migraines than I did with Aimovig.

It's great to hear that it is working for you. Can I ask you - if it has stopped / reduced headaches or migraines or both?

I have chronic tension h/a due to scoliosis, which turn into migraine if not caught right away. Also chronic migraine and menstrual migraine. I take Excedrin 3-4 times a day still, but significantly less migraine meds. I used to take 18 triptans a month. They didn’t help the menstrual migraine at all, but worked on the more common ones. Aimovig calmed the constant headachey feeling, pressure at base of skull, etc. I feel pretty normal in between Excedrin doses. I take about 3 triptans a month. Aimovig made it so that even the menstrual type responded to the triptan. I feel 95 % better than I did for more than 30 years. Aimovig was life changing and Ajovy seems to be working as well. I wish it worked for everyone.

I too had my first ajovy jab. I also found it painful but nothing compared with chronic migraine. Miraculously I haven’t had a migraine since so I am cautiously optimistic

Hello.

I have tried both Emgality and Ajovy. Emgality was a great success. It reduced pain level by about 50% and I went from 100 migraine hours per week down to 10. It worked almost immediately. Unfortunately it only lasted 9 weeks and I then developed antibodies so it stopped working.

I'm now on Ajovy and the journey has been completely different. It has taken about 3 months to start working and even now is not consistent. It's definitely doing something though. Either my pain level is reduced; or the duration is shorter; or i get a day or two between headaches which I didn't get before. Trouble is, it's not all together. It's either one thing and not the other 2. And I never seem to know which it will be at the start of a new headache.

But...it's better than nothing. I found the injections less painful than Emgality but then I've never had any side effects from either drug, not even redness at injection site.

I'm now in the process of teaming Ajovy and Botox together to see if the 2 treatments can complement each other. It's early days on the Botox front but I'm hopeful of making a difference.

Hope you have some luck with your treatment.
