What course of action is required to see if hormones are playing a part. My daughter is 13 and has been diagnosed with ndph (new persistent daily headaches) /chronic migraines by a paediatric neurologist. She has just been prescribed Nortriptyline taking 30mg from tomorrow, she started with 10, then 20mg so far no Improvement her head has been awful this week during her period week we definitely see a difference then. I did mention hormones at the appointment but nothing was said by neurologist. She's had 2 mri previously been on pizotifen imigran and topiramate.

Hormones
Hormonal migraines tend to the most difficult to treat, either by prevention or acute treatments. There is very little that can be done I'm afraid. I've had chronic migraines for 30 years and the menstrual migraines are the ones that breakthrough every time. Even women with hysterectomies find this doesn't stop menstrual migraines. I'm on a pill continuously so that I don't have periods but I still get the same amount of migraines that behave like menstrual migraines they just come unpredictably.
Generally you have to give each medication 6 weeks to work. This also gets through the period where your sideffects are worst then things tend to settle down. So I'd keep going with the Nortriptyline, it's too early to see if it's going to work.
Have you tried ringing The Migraine Trust for help? The fact she has had 2 MRI's suggests shes being taken seriously, I've never had any. Sorry I cant be more positive.
