Chronic headache

I'm looking for the best community on HealthUnlocked for discussing chronic headache. I've suffered from 24/7 headache pain, mainly around my eyes and somewhat in temples, for 40+ years. Not classic migraine.

Hello 👋

I’ve found this group and “Migraine Support” to be great.

That sounds absolutely awful - I imagine you’ve had several tests and loads of advice thrown at you during your experience with the pain, so I apologise if I’m just repeating everything you’ve already heard!

I get a seriously throbbing temple when I have a migraine - never really had the migraine aura, but definitely get the feeling of my head being cleaved in two!

Aside from medications etc, I found that cutting out alcohol, dairy and refined sugar helped me.

Plus I looked at eye strain (I recently studied for a degree in special educational needs and found loads of info about coping tools) - I used a great website to test if my eyes respond better to certain colours and found that mine relax and take off the head pain somewhat with a rose lens, so I just ordered some bog standard ones from Amazon.

And I find peppermint oil can help ease tension - I put it on perfume points and in aromatherapy necklaces and bracelets.

And aside from my essay of advice, this forum is just a great place to come and share with people in a similar situation - chronic pain is really so isolating, so it’s great to know we’re not alone with it. ☺️

Thank you, Penelope. Now that I have a good community, I'll ask some more specific questions.

Welcome! You like many of us have been through many trials.

What has worked best for me is DOSE and method of taking it.

I take Magnisium Glycinate 400mg 3x daily ( yes, this sounds like a lot, but I have been told up to 1600).

I also take Feverfew 200mg 2x daily.

I find my noon dose of magnesium helps the most. It is almost like it wears off and my body needs more.

Within the last year I have also added peppermint oil roll on, hot peppermint tea, ice and heat.

In addition, I take pill form Imitrix of 100mg ( normal people take 50mg.). if that doesn't stop it I use an injection of Imitrix.

I also drink a ton of water daily. Never skip a meal and sleep regularly.

These are newest tricks.

Hope you get some help.

That's interesting, I live in Cambridge so I was able to take part in an experiment a Cambridge PhD student created looking at colours best suited to migraineurs and after lots of tests etc Rose was the colour they decided was best for me too.....

Hi i cannot get a clear diagnosis between ndph and chronic migraine as fit criteria for both. Had acute migraine and eventually preventative meds failed now had permanent pains for 23 months. A fb page chronic pain (no whinging allowed) yes thats its title. Ran by Tom Bowen has been brilliant and im doing a pain workbook by Rachel Zoffness . I already did a lot of the suggestions in it tho. And i have a mind and body prescription book by john sarno. I could bore on forever about everything ive tried that hasnt worked. Neuro is almost at end of the line with me. Ive spent thousands. Possible referral to london for cranial neuro stimulation on cards altho ive tried a cefaly machine with no joy . I have noise and light aversion and a permanently tingling face.I hope you find some good advice.

It sounds like botox would help you. Even if you just had it cosmetically. If you haven’t already tried it you should give it a go. I suffer daily headaches with around 2 day a week severe migraine attacks that leave me bed bound. I’ve only ever had botox for cosmetic purposes and it stopped all the pain around my eyes etc

I tried Botox a couple of different courses, but no help (not even my looks).

I’ve had constant chronic headache/migraine since may 5th 2011.

I tried all the medicinal help available and only felt worse, for the last couple years I have been learning about tension myosotis syndrome/ mindbody syndrome.

Having been bed bound and near suicidal at times I got myself better and managed to get a job for the first time in almost a decade, now as I’m under so much stress my headache is worse than ever.

Hi. I am prone to headaches/migraines. I had a bout of constant headaches for 2 months. My eyes and temples hurt even in my sleep. In the end my doctor prescribed low dose 10mg of Amitriptyline 2 hours before bed. It has helped me at least get some sleep and feel much better. I still get the odd migraine though.
