My daughter has suffered from Chronic migraine for nearly 4 years. She has also been diagnosed with FND. Can anyone tell me how or if the 2 are connected and what treatment is available for FND? Her eye won't open on its own and has been like that for over 25 months but there is no treatment offered yet.

I am very sorry to hear this 😔 Are you in the UK? FND and migraine can be connected. Unfortunately very few effective treatment plans exist as of today for FND. Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) should be tried for FND but it won't help migraine. If you have not already, can you try finding a neurologist who is also a specialist in migraine?

Thank Troy.Yes we are in the UK. She has a neurologist and she was the one who diagnosed FND, however, there has been no treatment given at all for the FND.

My daughters health issues have lead to other health problems and on it goes.

If anyone has any helpful suggestions about where to go for FND assistance, I would appreciate their input.

I do not know if you are by any chance near Manchester, but in case you are - you may try Dr Mark Kellett who is a consultant neurologist and chairman of the Manchester Centre for Clinical Neurosciences Centre based at Salford Royal Hospital, which is one of the largest Neurosciences Units in the UK. However, NHS may not refer to him easily, so you may have to try privately. He is a specialist in FND as well as in migraine.

My concern will be, if the whole thing needs privately done then the cost will be huge and the outcome may not be satisfactory - as there is no 100% treatment for either of these illness. So, before going private - are you able to insist her GP to find a way to provide treatment for FND, such as CBT? Please be aware, there is no recognised or approved medication to treat FND yet. In the meantime, you may explore Acupressure. I've seen someone benefiting from this.

Thank you for the help and suggestions. We are in the North East of England so not exactly in the Manchester catchment area but will keep on hoping for some breakthrough in some form of treatment.

Just a thought. Make sure a B12 deficiency has been ruled out - there is more testing involved than just the blood level, as people can be highly (neurologically) symptomatic with 'normal' levels. Not all doctors are aware especially if it's a younger patient. Also other autoimmune disorders can have neuro effects.
