Stroke

I have suffered from migraines (aura) for many years. Four days ago I thought I was having yet another migraine but it turned out to be a stroke! The symptoms are similar! Numbness in my left arm and not being able to move it was the biggest give away! Am now out of hospital and on meds! Today I had a migraine (aura) and an hour later had another one. First time I have had more than one on the same day! Am assuming they are being triggered by the after effects of the stroke, or perhaps the meds I am having to take!? Has anyone out there had similar experiences? If so any advice would be much appreciated!

Sorry , hope you are on the road to recovery. It is very scary because it is difficult to decide if it is migraine or a stroke. I suffer from hemiplegic migraine and used to go to A & E just in case. Now I have Botox injections that control the paralysis and numbness so hopefully I’ll know the difference now. I hope you keep improving and keep well.

Hope you are recovering well. I had a stroke back in 2016 which was after a bout of migraines. I have since been left with daily headaches (head pain is how I’m supposed to describe it) I find some days harder to cope with than others.

I’ve suffered chronic migraines since I was young but they started mellowing out a bit and then after my stroke it was back to chronic it’s only recently I’ve stopped being sick in any length of car ride, I’ve learnt different people heal at different times it can take years but when you least expect it some great things can happen

Thanks Sadie! My stroke was last April. I then started getting double migraines each day for about a fortnight. Now things have changed because I only occasionally get a migraine now! Before the stroke I was having a classic migraine every other day for many years! I can only assume from this that the stroke medication we have to take daily now forever more (statins etc) also helps to stop migraines occurring!

So I’ve suffered migraines all my life so has my mum so I think it runs in the family 😅 but I have found since stroke my migraines have been more intense and more often and I’m 2 years post I’m now on sumatriptan 9 tablets a month ( practically stop it in its tracks) or there are other daily medications you can have but I can’t use due to the side effects. Also on dissolvable paracetamol a few times in the day. Goodluck
