Prozac and Amitriptyline?

My doctor prescribed me Amitriptyline to take along with my 30mg of prozac for migraines. She said it should be fine to mix. But I'm kinda worried about having an interaction. Has anyone mixed these?

Thanks,

Hello,

It was fine for me, I was on 175mg Amitriptyline and 60mg Prozac for about six years, personally I thought they were a good combination.

One of the side effects of Prozac can be yawning and a common side effect of amitriptyline is drowsiness, I'm an insomniac so these are hugely welcome to me! I would say take your amitriptyline early in the evening otherwise you can find it hard to wake up in the morning however this effect does wear off after a month as does the yawning. Most side effects occur in the first six weeks anyway and prozac has a long half life so takes a good six weeks to start working properly and will also take longer than other drugs to wean off. Also I have met people who haven't had any side effects from either drug so we're all individuals!

There's information here: migraines.org/treatment/pro...

It looks like there's potential for side effects with this combination.

True. Just going to watch it carefully Mr. Baggins.

Just seen Frodo's link, you may like to know that amitriptyline is only considered to act as an antidepressant at 400mg and above. It is routinely prescribed for chronic pain and bowel problems at 5 -30mg. I am on 175mg as this was considered to be the highest I could tolerate as it makes my blood pressure too low and I get dizzy when going from low to high positions.
