Constant pain

I see a lot of people in here have had migraines for years. How do you deal with this for so long? I have had head pain for 4weeks and ready to off myself. Don't know if I'm coming or going most days. The sitting with the pain is a hopeless feeling. I go to a neurologist today and don't have much hope he will do anything. Working while in constant pain is horrific. If I lose my job I will have no health insurance.

Hi, unfortunately it just becomes a way of life...it’s a disability, that people cannot see! I’m self employed because I had to change how I worked, I needed to work and I wasn’t going to claim benefits. After seeing 3 consultants and being told that there is no cure I stopped wasting money and I just get on with it. Once the hope is taken away you have no other choice. I’ve been suffering 36yrs now and have approx 25 a month. Good luck with your appointment x

If you have officially been diagnosed with a type of migraine you have a right to apply for various types of disability in US it is Social Security Disability (SSDI) if you have worked enough years or SSI if you do not have enough work quarterly credits. In Canada its the Canadian Pension Plan if you worked and have enough contributions or you apply for Provincial Social Assistance Program if you do not meet the CPP qualifications. Each country has its own permanent disability benefits programs and application requirements or processes.

I went to a neurologist since I was having migraines with aura on a weekly basis and it was determined that I had hemiplegic migraines since there is paralysis involved. I had an MRI done and I have white matter lesions in the brain. When there is too much migraines and medication does not help to prevent migraines then white matter lesions start to grow potentially. As well there is BRAIN SPECT to test functional capacity of your brain to register perfusion levels but you would need to be having an active migraine during the test for it to register high perfusion levels to label it as a migraine.

Early on I realized that some fast food restaurants were triggering my migraines. As I paid more attention to my headaches and read more about migraines, I found that preservatives were toxic for me and that I need to stay on a schedule for eating meals (healthy ones), sleeping and getting up at the same time every day. Those are easy changes when they they significantly impact your health. I do also take a number of medications. Most recently I started on Aimovig. Soon my Neurologist should be able to start taking me off some of my other medications. There are many less expensive drugs that have helped me along the way but Aimovig is a miracle for me. Good luck to you. The right Dr. makes all the difference.
