What a nightmare 😣 I'm so sorry you have all of this going on. It's aweful how we are treated just because no one can see our illness doesn't mean it's not there.

Howdypa, sorry that you are having such a bad time.

I recently discovered that naproxen really helps my migraines (prescribed for a trapped nerve and didn't have a migraine at ll in the month that I was on them). My GPs reaction had been 'we've tried everything' when I asked him about things a few months ago - so understand what you mean - can be really hit and miss as to whether you find one who is willing to try and get to the bottom of things.

It may actually be worth retrying something even if you have found that it didn't work in the past because things do change with time and what worked at one point may not work at another point in time.

Migraine is very difficult as nobody seems to be entirely sure what causes them and people seem to vary a lot in what they respond to. It's quite probable that there are a number of possible mechanisms involved. The best doctor I ever saw was a nuerologist specialising in hormonal migraines who had the confidence to admit that he didn't have any easy answers but there were things that seemed to work so try those.

Have you seen a neurologist at all? - there are a few out there that specialise in migraine. Would your GP be open to referring you to the national migraine centre? or would you consider referring yourself?

It sounds like you're in USA?

There are 2 new migraine meds in the pipeline, a preventive shot and an alternative to triptans. Currently in trials - Eli Lilly. So there may be hope in the next couple of years.

There's desperation in your message howdypa :-( most on here will sympathise with you, migraines are a much misunderstood beast. Can you change your doctor? Are there any specialist headache centres where you are? Have you tried alternative treatments like acupuncture? You are reaching out to us and all we can offer is sympathy, I hope that helps as what medication works for 1 doesn't work for another so it's hard to know what to suggest in that line. Definitely magnesium/B12 supplement for starters, look at your diet and maybe books like Stanton Protocol, she claims to cure migraineurs! All the best x

I am sorry to read your post above Howdypa. Perhaps you can benefit of anything I will describe underneath.

To manage myself I now use B12/ hydroxocobalamin injections ,average of 1 ( sometimes 2 )a month. L-5-Methyltetrafolate, Mercola Magnesium L-Threonate, vitamin D3 with K2, been advised to also try vitamin B2 on this site. Also watch/monitor what I eat and drink.

A few years ago I went cold turkey with ALL prescribed migraine medicines, things went so bad I got in a vicious circle, medication induced migraines.

Now much better, frequency much reduced as well as the actual pain when I do suffer one. I can cope with 1 Nurofen 600mg plus 2 paracetamol 500mg up to and no more the 3 times a day, usually only once or twice a day. I don't end up in bed with a bucket next to me, but manage to get through the day whilst still do the jobs I intended to do( although not wholeheartedly ). I wish this would work for everyone , alas life isn't this simple.😏 😎
