After five years of migraines ( 60 in 2013 , ( 48 in 2014 /15 /16. I am delighted to say that I have now been migraine / headache free for over 30 days. The first time in at least 5 years and it may be as long as 21 years ( no headache or migraine for 9 months when I was pregnant 21 years ago!) I'm so delighted my friend and I celebrated with champagne! ( not too much!). What's happened??? 1; end of menopause 2; yoga once a week, 3; sunshine ( vitamin D on skin) 4; quiet stress free life! ???? Not sure but don't despair people's. Keep reading and learning and trying to find an answer. I really hope this is my future fingers crossed Xx

Hi Kathy,

May I ask your age?

I've always been more prone to ordinary headaches than anyone else I know, but apart from a few years during puberty, I didn't start getting migraines till I reached the perimenopause at about 46-47.

The following 18 years (I'm now 64) have been pretty grim as you might imagine. However I started taking gabapentin at the beginning of this year and although I've had migraines, they are less frequent and much less severe. I understand that migraines tend to fade away as we get into our seventies so it could be a combination of my age and the medication.

Either way I'm delighted. It's not until you are migraine free that you realise how badly your life was affected by this horrible affliction.

Hope you savoured that glass of champagne!

I am 55 years old in February. My last period was when I was 47. Migraines really took hold when I turned 50. ( up until then I'd always called it a headache) my husband took me to a neurologist who diagnosed me. I started taking almotriptan and Naproxen combined which killed the pain dead but of course not good for me. My dad and three out of four of my brothers suffer with headaches/ migraines. So sorry you have suffered for so long. I really recommend yoga. Good luck X

I was never offered any of the drugs you mention. Wish I had been! I'll certainly give yoga a go. Thanks for the tip.

Gee I could not have coped without them. Instead of spending days in bed feeling sick I would lay down for one hour to let the tablets work then up I got back to normal no pain! Only trouble I would get a bit of a hangover from the drugs a bit woozy. And no doubt it has affected my heart, liver etc so my life expectancy has reduced!

I actually wouldnt care about reduced life expectancy, I wasted years of my life lying in bed anyway!

I feel as I've not been well served my GP's, 18 years of suffering and I was never referred to the headache clinic at the hospital. I obviously wasn't offered all the drugs available either!

Ah well, at least things are better now. No point looking back!
