I have headache for years coming and going , don't no if it's tension or migraine , starts at the back of my neck and creeps up to my temple this can be on the right or left side of my head ... Paracetamol is useless it is very bad at times it has destroyed my social life ...

Yes. I know what you are going through. I have suffered severe neck pain and migraine. I attend a physio through NHS

Have tried amitryptyline, which has horrible side effects and now on naproxen which did work now getting pain back at night. Try changing your pillows. I found if I support my neck it helps. When pain carries on to migraine I take sumtriptan. Going back to docs again

Thank you very much I certainly will change my pillow I have ordered a neck brace ,I saw on amazon it has magnets that are supposed to help circulation I must go back to the doctor too...I will let u no how the brace works ...

It sounds like occipital nerve neuralgia. I started getting these same type of migraines about a year ago and they are horrendous! Thankfully a nurse practitioner diagnosed it correctly right away and recommended occipital nerve block injections and acupuncture!! Eventhough the injections aren't pleasant, they do drastically cut down on the severity and duration. I also tried gabapentin and couldn't continue talking it because of the side affects! So i continue with the nerve blocks, acupuncture and my other saving grace has been peppermint essential oil!! I use it straight without a carrier oil and apply it generously to the back of my neck, base of my head, along the nerve pathway on my head and along the hairline on my forehead!! It's been a lifesaver!!

Thanks for the advice must say this to my doc... u were lucky to meet that nurse I often wonder is there any end to this seems to b getting worse as I get older..
