Hello,

I came off Amitriptyline for all of my pregnancies. By the second trimester they put me back on it bc I was in so much pain. I was on 175mg before I got pregnant when they put me back on they put me on 40mg. My migraine specialist said 60 mg was the absolute highest I could be on but she wasn't happy about it. Out of 2 Gp's one thought it was fine the other said it was bad, she also said it didn't matter which trimester it was as it was bad in all of them really. My daughter is almost 3 now and is very healthly. My other two pregnancies ended in miscarriage due to Turners Syndrome which has nothing to do with Amitriptyline, it's an uninherited genetic condition. The truth of the situation is like most things during pregnancy taking nothing is the safest option. I have Chronic migraines and fibromyalgia amongst other things and stopped sleeping almost entirety when taken off it after a few months of the pain and not sleeping it was considered that the stress levels would be more harm to the baby than Amitriptyline but of course it's a ways a gamble. Its best to take your self off it slowly and then reasess as your pregnancy developed. Good luck!
